Calling all 329PD Owners

Here's a picture of the Hogue 500s on my well used 329.

This, and above picture are several years old -- maybe as many as five. Still carry the 329 all day everyday from mid March until mid Nov.

Hard to beat a broken in sourdough.
That's a great looking rig!
This is how I carry my 329.

That Sourdough Pancake was one of Rob's original hand sewn (IIRC)
holsters, made when was still in Idaho (before the move to Alaska and subsequently to Arizona).

His product design, execution and quality has come a long way since those early days. His customer service is next to none and has always been that way.

Rob has (on several occasions) offered to replace that holster with a new one or "refurb" it. It has worked for me for a long time and I expected it to do so for years to come and haven't/won't take him up on the offer.

FWIW,

Do you ever swap out the Hogue for the pretty wood grips to make it easier to ride next to your body?

I usually carry mine in flap-style hip holster either from my hip or on my pack. The other day I stuck it in a high-riding hip belt holster and I found the grip hanging up on my shirt & coat. I seriously though about putting the pretty wood grips back on when I carry it socially.

Just wondering as I don't carry an N-Frame concealed much.

Nope!

Always use the Hogue 500s (except I tried the Pachmayr Gripper Declerators -- too narrow at top for me). Never shot it with either the Aherns or the open back strap Hogues that came with the gun.

I have a problem with the bone at the base of my thumb and the 500 Hogue X frame grips are the only ones that are comfortable for me.

I tried the Ahrens (wood grips) on a 625 Mtn Gun in 45 Colt with 250s at 850 fps and even these moderate loads were uncomfortable -- bone at the base of my thumb thing again.

The 500s can be grippy, but you can adapt to it. Exposing the gun isn't a legal issue here in MT.

I bought a 329 soon after they came out. My first range session, I fired twenty rounds of 240gr JSP with the Ahrends stocks on it...I thought it was the most painful experience I have had with a handgun. The skin at the base of my thumb was ripped and bleeding. The joint at the base was so painful, I could hardly stand to fire anything for about three months...It was a stupid thing to do!...If I had another I would handload .44 Spl loads in magnum cases and stick to those. My concerns with using the shorter cases would be the effects on the inside of the titanium chambers from the heat ahead of the shorter case mouths...That may not be an issue though...It sure was nice to carry on long hikes on mountain trails.

I have had a 329PD with Hogue 500X grips on it,for about 10 years now and I love it. As others have posted, it was meant to be carried a lot and shot a little. Since I have 9 other 44 mag revolvers to play with, that rule suites me just fine. Nearly every range session, tho, I unholster the 329PD, which I carry all the time, and fire a shot or two just to maintain my proficiency with it. My carry load is 18g of 2400 behind a 230g hollow point cast boolt. Velocity is 1121 fps with an SD of 22.
