Camp Coffee & Whats Wrong with this Statue

Your tent looks just like the 10x10 Kelty tent my wife & I bought at Costco over 35 years ago!
After about 15 years we graduated from that to a camper that slid into the bed of my pickup,
Another 15 years later we graduated to a lake cabin.
Haven't slept in a tent in close to 30 years, but seeing that one brings back fond memories.

The statue in OPs post faces approximately 341 degrees, 19 degrees west of North. Why does it matter? You can verify this in Google Earth if you wish! Statues are commonly oriented relative to their surroundings, not the compass.

Not 100%, but I found it common for the UDC statues to face north (as this one pretty much does, apparently..) symbolically still “watchin’ for the Yankees.”

(For those who didn’t know, UDC = United Daughters of the Confederacy. It’s on the pedestal of the statue.)

If he is facing North, he would not be shading his eyes from the sun.

The question was raised, earlier in this thread. Is he saluting or shading his eyes from the sun?

Camp coffee is the best! Especially when made on an old Coleman stove!

Back in the last century I was doing commercial construction, mainly in VA, WV and KY. One Saturday I was on the way back to Ohio and stopped for lunch at a diner in a smallish town either in KY or WV.

Across the street I noticed a CW type memorial statue in the town square. I walked over to look at the statue and the inscription read: In memory of those who gave their lives in defense of their homeland.

Looking closer at the statue it was a very good likeness of a CW enlisted man with equipment, except there were no CS or US logos on any of the places you would normally expect to find them. Thinking about it I decided that for a border state where either side could consider themselves to be defending their homeland, it was very appropriate memorial.

It is a Eureka brand tent. I have had it about 15 years to replace another Eureka I bought in 1983. Can stand up in it, put in an inflatable Coleman queen mattress, camp chair, great rain fly. Slept like a rock with temps in the mountains in low 60s. At my age of 71 it takes a little longer to set up but one person can do it.

Still love sleeping in a tent.
