Can anyone tell me what year my 17-6 was made?

It's a Model 17-6, 6", with full underlug. I understand they were manufactured from 1989 to 1994, but would like to know the exact year. The S.N. is BF58668.

Islandguy, in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition, it states your revolver was cataloged between 1990 and 1995; however, I find no serial number with only a two letter prefix.

Are you sure there is not another letter after BF in your serial number? For example BFN, BFL, BFF, BFW, BFY, or BFV are all prefixes beginning in 1990 and ending in 1992 according to the book.

If that's "BFSxxxx", then I'd say it was made between August 1990 and January 1991, according to my copy of SCSW3

Thanks for the point-out. the number is actually BFS8668
