Can I Join The 27-2 Club?

Congratulations on a fine 5" 27
Non numbered stocks will free you up to put those combats on.

Thanks Paul. I don't own a set of sq. butt combats (yet) but I thought a set of John Culina's magnas would be what the Dr ordered. I haven't shot it yet but see why there are so many Tyler Ts on these guns. I end up sticking my trigger finger in to the second joint to get the right grip. Looks good but doesn't feel right at all. Y'all stay warm up there!!!

BTW, The SCSW dates this one 1967-68. Anyone that can zero it any closer would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mark

So there I was, minding my own business when I get a phone call from a fellow co-worker. He asks,"You like Smith revolvers don't you?" I guess word gets around. I replied "Well yes I do. Whatcha got?" He tells me he bought a blued 5" 27-2 a few months ago and he'd been looking at a bolt action .308. Said he didn't really know why he bought the revolver and didn't care for blued guns either. He said he'd turn it loose for six Bens if I was interested. That'd pay for the rifle. I got that funny tingle that runs up your spine and arranged to meet him to look at the gun in person.
Turned out the gun was in perfect shape. Not one blemish. Not even the usual holster wear. Included the original cardboard box held together with scotch tape but no presentation case. :( The grips were in great shape too but not numbered to the gun. I guess you can't have everything.
The rest is history. I grabbed my wallet before he changed his mind, wasn't even going to try to wheel & deal. I felt I got more than a fair price.
Can I join the club now??

Thanks for looking, The TinKnocker

You can only join, if you send me 1 also!!! NICE 27, congratulations! Bob

Very nice 5" er ;)

I would think it likely shipped late 1968 to early 1969 in the non diamond Magna era although in that range might could go either way especially if it had targets.
My 1974 five inch has the same large ampersand on the barrel but has the new style ampersand on the frame.

PS, no check marks under TT TH ?

You got one heck of a deal . A 5" S prefix In 99 % + condition with original box , I would have been a buyer at two and half times what you paid .

Engine, thanks for the info. I did blank out the last of the s/n but that's it. I did think it strange that the label was upside down on the lid. Is that normal?

Not strange at all; that was SOP with two piece boxes for model numbered guns that had end labels.
S&W handled and stored the boxed guns upside down to reduce the risk of fumbling the bottom and contents onto the floor.

another reason for upside down label

Another reason for upside down label was: when the revolvers were displayed in a showcase at a gun store, by removing top portion of box and setting bottom portion into top portion so that revolver could be viewed and label could be easily read!
