Can I trade a sig for a 686?

I am fortunate enough to own a 686+ and a P229.

Bought a SIG P228 a few years ago in a misguided attempt to modernize my defensive training and try to expand my consciousness beyond the M1911. So foolish... The 1911 is forever, and I am again at peace.

Anyway The P228 got traded for a two-tone P229 in .40 S&W ('Cause like many old farts I felt guilty carrying a 9. How much can the world really expect me to change?), which in turn got traded for a P229 with a rail, because the words "Let there be light" came to me. Along the way a .22LR conversion unit got added, which worked on all three guns. And I bought extra magazines for the conversion unit. Then I got a .357 SIG barrel for it. I confess (full disclosure) am stalking a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel now. Alas, I fear one of those really funky Kel-Tec SUB-2000 folding carbines is also on the way, as they accept SIG magazines.

In short, I am lost.

Keep the SIG unfired. Do not handle it, or even touch it, or you too will suffer.

Keep the girl (You KNOW that, right?). Save for the 686. In the meantime, find some way to introduce her to shooting a Smith revolver, and when she has learned to love them let her suggest trading at some point.

But don't either of you touch the SIG!

If you marry that girl you'll be paying for the Sig until the day you die if you trade it. Buy the 686 a paid for it one time. Oh and buy her a piece of jewelry of equal value as the 686. It will save you in the long run.

I've carried a .40 cal. P229 as my service handgun sine 1995. It's an awesome firearm, but it's not for everyone. If you spent some time firing it, I think you might change your opinion. Regardless, keep the gun as a reminder that your gal is a definite KEEPER. Not everybody's girlfriend buys them an expensive, high quality handgun, and her selection tells me she did some homework in making that choice.

You can only trade the Sig.........if you have already traded the girlfriend!!!!!

Guys....it's his girlfriend....not his wife......different rules.......

OP....looks like a keeper!!!!!!!!

Good luck and........well you know......LOL

My wife must be different then most of the other ones here, because she would not care one bit if I traded a gun she bought me for something I wanted more. Don't really get the "you'll be paying for it forever" comments. Only things she would say is "I'm sorry honey. I wish I had known this one wasn't really what you wanted"

Any any girl who would cut your nuts off for such a trivial thing isn't worth keeping, in my book.

Just tell her you couldn't resist making the trade for a gun that was worth twice as much. Apologize, buy her a new pair of shoes and take her out to dinner. She'll be fine! :D

Keep the Sig get a 9mm barrel for it ,teach her how to shoot the the 9mm.
Then get the 627 PC or pro model . Sorry I am liking that better than the 686.

:eek:This is the perfect situation ! Put the Sig in the sock draw and never sell it. Then start buying guns left and right and tell her it was the Sig that got you interested in collecting! How perfect is that !
You can do what you would like and she feel she will really got you a hobby rather than just a gift.....But for your sake and future well being DON'T SELL THE SIG..........In your case, it a lot more than just a gun.......
Married guys know this stuff !

This fall is me and the wife's 25th anniversary. She has never bought me anything relating to anything I've ever been interested in. I'm jealous.

I like revolvers, but a Sig is a semi-auto worth keeping. Their really nice guns. That was a quite a gift from your Lady and women give gifts from the heart. If you love this girl, keep the Sig.

the 686 was the last. When he say it as I took it out of its box all he could say was "WOW". I handed it to him, he held it like something precious.

That experience spoke volumes to me about the beauty of the 686

I always get the same reaction as well when I hand new shooters the gleaming 686. Their reaction gets even better once they start with 38 special loads and I transition them to full house 357 MAG loads.

If I had to own one gun it would be a 4" 686 as I prefer it even to my Python.

EDIT: The SIG as an awesome gun and if you want to stay with your girlfriend hold onto it. Beater 686s come up for $450-500 all the time, don't go drinking a few nights over the next month and buy one...

It was a gift keep it. Me and my wife always just give each other the money to buy what we want. It works, that way everyone gets what they really want. My wife just "bought me" (gave me the ok to spend the money on) a new M&P R8 for fathers day...and guess what I love it. :D
