I have a Model 640-3 and the screw that holds the grips to the gun will not back out so that I can remove the grips. The screw will turn, in both directions, but will not unscrew so that I can remove the screw and then remove the grips. Any suggestions?

If the escusteon on the right grip turns when you turn the screw, it is loose and needs to be secured. Try applying a drop of Super Glue to the escusteon and wood joint. DON'T get any on the screw threads!

Wait a half hour for th Super Glue to set, and try removing the screw again.

I'm sorry, I did not make myself clear. the grips are rubber, probably pachmayers. Looking at the head of the screw the escusteon is not visible. All it can see is the head of the screw and the rubber grip only.

Okay. From your description of turning the screw both ways does not loosen the grips, the escusteon is loose in the rubber molding.

You don't have much of a choice now except to somehow immobilize the escusteon to remove the screw, or forcibly open the grip halves, and pop the escusteon out of the rubber molding.

I would attempt to immobilize the escusteon first. Try prying the grip halves apart at the seam, and forcing the half away from the screw as you unscrew it. That might be enough to stop the escusteon from turning.

A second, less desirable approach, is to cut with an exacto knife through the rubber to access the escusteon, and use superglue like I described ealier. Or drill out the rubber to get to the escusteon. Either of these is likely to leave visible scars on the rubber.

Or drill out the rubber to get to the escusteon and then you maybe can get pliers to hold it. if that works can use RTV to fill the hole in the rubber grips

you may have to cut the grips off and put a new pair on. Even if you get it off you may not like the looks when your done,so be prepared to buy new grips just in case.
