I am a big fan of the full lug S&W’s I wont to gather the parts to have a custom 17 built it will have 2 cylinders 1 in 32 mag and 1 in 327, my initials on the spot above the back strap and below the hammer in gold, a recessed target crown, target hammer, target trigger, action job and a full reblue with square butt combat grips
I do not wont to do this to an original full lug 17 (as if I could find one in CA anyway) so I thought I would do it from parts I have the grips (they will have to be refinished) and I see I can order a 17 barrel from midway so I need to know witch frame, hammer, trigger (I think I wont the widest availed) and cylinders I could use to complete this with the least amount of machine work

A 17/617 is a .22 rimfire revolver. What you are talking about is a .32 caliber centerfire gun. The two don't easily mix! You better start looking for Model 16 parts.

Any center-fire K-frame is the place to start. You don't have to "collect parts" just buy a complete K-38 and find a Model 16 barrel and two cylinders and have a competent gunsmith fit everything. The usual way is two cylinders and two yokes as it isn't likely you will find two cylinders that will be capable of being fit to one yoke. The factory did it, but they have resuurces you don't.

Yes I did mean a model 16. So if I get a model 16 full lug barrel from midway the threads will match any k frame?

I was going to do the same thing you're doing. I have a 4" .32 mag bbl full lug NEW in the wrap from S&W. I also have the .22 cyl in very nice shape that can be converted to any .32 caliber. I'll sell both of them if interested for you're project. The bbl is 155 shipped and the cyl is 55 shipped or 205 for both shipped. PM me if interested, Larry

I think I need an 8 inch barrel for my project I want to end up with a 6 inch barrel with a recessed target crown but I will pm you about the cylinder
