Can you say "Bullpup"

Col.Plink, my son is a lefty and he absolutely must have this conversion shell so the cheek pad/ case deflector is a must.

QuiQNeZZ, can you comment more specifically on the fore grip please. It is a natural place to put your hand and vertical would have been too bulky and odd looking. The angled fore grip seemed like the best choice which also fit into the flow of the design.

I don't like the curved tip/tongue shape on the fore grip and the spacing between it and the barrel. I think if it's shaped straight and the top part that is underneath the barrel would be grooved to be shaped somewhat around the bottom half of the barrel it would be a much cleaner look.

The barrel looks too thin at that point so as I said before I think it would look alot better with a thicker barrel shroud and have that upper part of the foregrip shaped around it with the groove I just mentioned. So it would almost look like the barrel or barrel with shroud and the foregrip is a one piece. Do you know what I mean?

It will physically fit but would be uncomfortable because your arm would be resting on the drum that would be sticking out the side.

Rundover,

Great job! That thing is the most custom 15-22 here in the land of customization. Or will be once the first round goes through it. You designed it, your building it, and you got this far without opinions from every bull shooter on this site. I hope you keep going and don’t get caught up trying to make early changes because guys say they don’t like this or that. Finish it and make it shoot!

Some guys will love it, some will hate it, but YOU own it and YOU built it. Kudos to you!

Thanks PHXSHOOTER. At this time I have ordered most of the internals, just missing a standard trigger with spring and possibly a take down pin. My goal for this next phase is to get this thing functioning and test fire it. At that point I will be able to evaluate how she functions and adjust the shape if needed. If all goes well and there is a demand I would consider making more but we will see.

Doesn't look functional to me. Where's the trigger? How about the recoil spring - doesn't look like there is room in the stock? I also think the hot barrel will be a problem for the fore grip hand (as someone mentioned already). It certainly has a cool race-car look, but I don't see how it improves on the AR platform with a collapsible stock.

Bullpups don't have collapsible butt stocks

It's a prototype....

I believe he was just working on the stock to see if it was even feasible. The recoil spring is part of the bolt carrier on the 15-22, so it will work as is. (doesn't need the spring / buffer of a regular AR) Fire control group to come later.

I think it's great that members are trying new things to further the platform. I'm not a big fan of bullpups personally, but if this becomes a reality, I would try it just to reward the effort. Especially if you can just detach it from the bullpup stock an put it back on the regular lower. (which it looks like may be a possibility)

He has challenges to overcome, I will be watching with interest.....

So, if this is just a shell, and clamps on over the lower. Could this be used on a AR platform?

I would be interested in this! Possibly more then one if it will also work on the AR platform!

Two things worth noting.
First the "shell", which should maybe be called a Lower Bullpup Receiver, would attach the same way as the factory 15-22 lower receiver, using the take down pins. This would make changing platforms easy and very quick.
Second, there is no more rail left at the front to attach a forward grip. If I change this the grip will still need to be incorporated into the Lower Bullpup Receiver.
The other consideration is weight. I didn't want to pack on more pounds than are really needed. Keeping it light weight and simple will also keep it more dependable.

Just got back to the forum after some time playing in 1911-land and found this thread. As I scrolled down I confess to having doubts about both the reality of the project and the idea of bullpups in general. But now that I've seen the man's prototype I actually like the looks of the thing! That foreward grip is a work of art and the whole integration of the 15-22 upper looks well thought-out. If the fire-control linkage can be worked out we may well have a winner. Bullpups are answers to some very limited questions IMO; their compact dimensions make them valuable for CQB and semi-concealed carry. Personnel using space-limited transport (submersible, airborne or air-assault) also find them handy. Problems? According to my research they tend to be ergonomic nightmares when used out of a limited presentation envelope and changing magazines is also awkward in many of the designs (like this one). As a combat weapon the least amount of variation from the firing position when changing magazines is the best.
With those caveats, I really like what the gentleman has done here. His prototype has a gracefulness that makes sense to me and since this is never going to be a combat arm, the common bullpup problems aren't quite so important. I am anxious to see how this progresses and applaud what he has accomplished so far; good luck, Sir and well done!

Rundover: Great job. Take a look at Msar-STG-556. They were introduced 2007 and have a greatly improved trigger over the AUG. Around 2010 they had( " problem") financial? so they regrouped and are making the Msar-stg-556 E4 which uses factory AR mags. That being said there trigger from the original 2007-2010 were good to very good and may offer you an idea of how they got there. I like the folding vertical grip on msar since it is butt heavy, which you would not have with 15-22 BP. The fore end looks great and you will not know how quickly the gun will move till you star getting rounds through it. Good Luck, Be Safe,
