I have a S&W Model 36 snub nose revolver with a serial number format of

7J8XXX

Can anyone help me to figure out the approximate year that this revolver was made.

Thanks, John

Have you double checked the number, looking at the butt of the gun? According to the info below, 1971 or 1972. By the way, that would place this gun in the pre-1980 S&W forum!
