I saw the new Captain America movie yesterday - the 2D version. I really enjoyed it, and I think a lot of folks here would, too.

It is very old-fashioned in its own way. It is unabashedly patriotic - we're the good guys, and the Nazis are the bad guys. No hidden messages that I could discern - but I'm not very smart, so there may have been.

Lots of period correct guns - Cap carries a 1911, and there are plenty of Garands, carbines, Thompsons, Schmeissers, and the like.

In what I fervently hope is an intentional reference, Tommy Lee Jones brings the mayhem with a Winchester 97 for the first time since he cleaned out a cathouse with one 40 years ago in Rolling Thunder.

As a side note, in a time when foreign actors seem to be getting all the American hero roles, the makers only considered American actors for the lead role.

STANDARD MOVIE RECOMMENDATION DISCLAIMER:

Yes, you saw it and you "want two hours of your life back". Also, I'm sure some or all of the cast and crew are "Hollyweird" liberals who want to take your guns away. And the guy in front of you kept texting. And you haven't been to the movies since "True Grit" came out - the real one, not the wussy one with the guy from Tron in it.

I still liked it.

My two sons had a guys night out and saw it this weekend. I agree with sig, I thought it was real good.

I grew up reading Captain America and the Avengers. Loved the movie.... they're using Marvel's Ultimates Story Line for the movies they have been releasing but even then that's a great story line.

I wish they showed the Airborne drop into Iceland with the 101st as they did in the comic. There was a great line in the start of that series. Captain America readies for the jump. The GIs tell him he looks like a ******* in his outfit. Capt'n comes back with "Only sissies wear parachutes" and then jumps out. The GIs are shocked and amazed.

I can only say that I saw the majority of the film and not the whole movie. Saw it with my girlfriend at the Swap Shop Drive In Movies and well.... one thing led to another and some clothing was taken off. But from what I did see..... the movie is FRAKKING AWESOME and 100% Patriotic.

One of the toy versions of Captain America floating around comes with a Thompson SMG, copied from the latter day runs of 12" GI Joes. Handy accessory.
