What is a good bang for the buck carry case? I'm looking for a typical tactical case. I would prefer one that comes with the magazine pouches and also one that has straps inside to keep the gun from sliding around. I know I have seen one with the straps but I don't remember who posted the pic.

My favorite is the discrete case from Castle Rock Tactical. It holds 6 mags in the interior, two good sized pockets and backpack straps. You can also get it in non traditional gun colors.

are there any that have velcro straps on the inside to keep the gun from sliding around?

I have the UTG covert 32-inch bag.

right now it's loaded up with a M&P15, M&P15-22, 3 30-round (223) mags , 1 10-round (223), 3 25-round (22lr) mags, 3 12-round (40S&W) mags, and my aimpoint clone.

it may be made for airsoft, but there hasn't been any signs of failure carrying it around. the only downside to it with 2 rifles in there is that the grips rest on the other rifle's barrel. They are in 6-9 position.

i got it here for $33.50 shipped:

Here is the bag the day it arrived (2 days after I placed my order I might add with amazon prime):

Here are some pics from the packaging material around the bag...I haven't taken any shots of it loaded up.

EDIT: before any flames arise, or the issue is brought up, I keep it in a low humidity place with those moisture silica capturing stuff.

and if anyone asks when I am carrying it, I tell them it's a keyboard, but I don't feel comfortable playing it in front of people. Maybe next time.

EDIT #2: I cannot place two rifles in here with my aimpoint clone mounted.

EDIT #3: It doesn't have a lot of padding.

I have a U.S. Peacekeeper case that was supposed to be $90 but my LGS hires some less-than-stellar support and, as a result, I got it for $40! Very thickly padded sides AND top and bottom. Holds my long gun secure with straps, a pistol in the holster next to it, 3 rifle mags, 2 pistol mags, holster and anything else I neeed. Plus it's low profile-no contours.

I have the UTG one linked above i love it i have to take my site off for the gun to fit in it but it beats the big ass sniper drag bag i was using.

Here are pics of the UTG bag loaded up.

I managed to get it loaded with the aimpoint clone on it today, but it's a bit too snug in there. I don't really trust the durability of that sight, so I will remove it later.

There is still plenty of room in the front pocket for more stuff, but it's beginning to weigh too much, and I don't need much else besides some more ammo.

"...it's a keyboard."

10 mags of different calibers, maglula, laser bore sight, stock wrench. still room for more. aimpoint clone will go back in here later.

Still trying to name them. "dr. evil and mini-me", "smith and wesson", eh, you get the picture.

EDIT: added photo. Weighing in at a whopping 20.5 lbs.

i bought a leapers/UTG combat carry case. it's 42" long (too long for the 15-22 but the extra length makes it easier to fit other guns like the 10-22). it has a ton of pockets. the 3 front pockets have velcro and buckle enclosures with that bungee cord under the pocket flap to keep things snug. they hold a ton of stuff. the side pockets will hold 4 mags each (if i had 4 mags:() and the center pocket will easily hold 2 boxes of federal 550 with a little room to spare. there is a long pocket covered in molle webbing between the 3 cargo pockets the rifle compartment which, again, holds more stuff than i have to carry. the padding is very good and the case is the most sturdy, rugged soft case i own. seems to be well constructed. the zippers are beefy. has backpack straps on the back. buckles to close all compartments so even if the zippers open up, the case stays closed. a little pricey at $70 but after it arrived from midwayusa, i think it was well worth the price. if they made a 36" i'd buy another in a hearbeat. haven't tried to put two rifles in yet but i would say that i think you can fit two if there are not optics, much like the other cases on this thread.

This is pretty basic but serves the purpose and the size is perfect. Uncle Mikes, via Optics Planet, Inc. Three mag pouches, carry strap, large velcro flap pocket. $22.97 plus S/H.

Could you take some more pictures?

I have a simple range bag that can carry several boxes of ammo, targets, rods, cleaning supplies, etc.

I am basically looking for the smallest case possible for the 15-22 and have it hold three magazines.

Where do you put the magazines at?

Does the gun barely fit with the stock adjusted to the shortest length?

Thank you very much!

Take care
-Matt

The case measures 33" x 10" which allows the 15-22 to fit with just a small free area at the stock and barrel tip. The mags are stored in the exterior mag pockets. There's an exterior flap pocket - velcro for misc stuff. As I said, it's basic but I wanted something for just the rifle and mags. I've got a SW range bag for all of the other stuff.

Wow! Thank you so much raven!

I take it in the last picture the magazines are inside of the pouches closed? How well do the mags fit/release from the pouch? It's not hard to pull the mags out is it?

Seems like the perfect case for just rifle and mags. I have another range bag that i use for everything else.

Minimal size is the necessary feature here.

I think the only thing I see wrong with the case is there aren't any straps inside to keep the gun from moving around in there.

I suppose I could just add my own. :D

Thank you very much for the wonderful pictures and explanation.

You're very welcome. The mags fit in perfectly; tight enough to hold them securely but loose enough to grasp the tip and pull them out. In the one pic showing the end of the mag I intentionally didn't put it fully in the pouch. I agree, wish the case had straps to hold the rifle in place but velcro's inexpensive and that can be easily remedied.

midway tactical gun case

I bought a Midway tactical gun case and am very happy with it.I bought the 35" model and it works well. But if I were to order another I would get the 42" model. The case holds the mags well,(6)and has other compartments for storage .It also has velcro straps to hold gun in place.I really like Midway USA's service, selection, price and ease of ordering.

I agree with you and I am sure that is a wonderful case but I think I am in love with the Uncle Mike's tactical bag, plus the price is under $30 with shipping included!

Thank you Raven!
