I bought my carry concealed license for my gun in September 2011.

Last week, my wife paid a deposit on a S&W .38 Special 4", model 67. Today she went to get her CCW license and had to pay $79.25! Oh, this is in Georgia by the way.

I certainly don't recall paying nowhere near that price in 2011. But, I understand inflation and all that, but...

How much is it where you are?

Pennsylvania 5yrs. $25.00 20 minute wait.Due for renewal this year.Heard price went up to $35.00.

Washington state $36.00 for original issue and $32 for renewal (both are good for 5 years). (just renewed mine so I still had the paperwork sitting on my desk).

Mine was $79.25 in Clayton County. The cost is actually set by the county probate court with a maximum, IIRC, of $80. I asked one of the people at the courthouse if it wouldn't be smarter just to make it $80 so they didn't have to keep small change? She laughed and said, ask the judge. But at least as of July 1, we don't have to be fingerprinted again for renewal.

BTW, the fee has gone from a usual fee of $39.25 in 2009 to the current usual fee of $79.25. Much of the increase apparently goes to the the GBI for the background check but it also includes the fingerprint and application charges.

I got my first GA WCL in 1997, I think the grand total was around $37.00 and it took about 3 months to receive. The last time I renewed was 2012, the total was $75.00 and took about 2 or 3 weeks.

Alabama is set by the county if I remember correctly. It's $20 where I live a year or $100 for 5 years. In and out within about 10 minutes usually with a new license with your picture on it.

TN handgun carry permit fee is $115 and $50 renewal every 4 yrs. There has been talk of expanding the renewal period to 5 years.

If you go 6 months beyond the expiration date, you have to go through the whole process again, safety class, finger prints, $115 fee and long wait.

I don't like the cost but I can afford it. Unfortunately, I'm sure some can't and they probably need a permit more than me. I'm retired and don't get out much, especially at night.

When you consider the $50-$100 dollars for the class, $115 for the permit, and $50 for the renewal, costs add up. This doesn't even account for the fact that some may need to purchase a firearm and purchase ammo.

The $39.25 sounds about right for when I got my license in 2011. That isn't too bad; but $79.25 is starting to push it. But this is what happens when two agencies are processing a license like this.

Illinois is $150 for 5 years not counting about $200 for the required 16 hours of classes. I think the renewal is slightly cheaper with a required "refresher course". We are second to none in our ability to shaft the taxpayer every which way we can!!!

Apparently the GBI purges fingerprints after 90 days. This is another reason they charge so much and thus force us to re-fingerprint. Has any one else heard this?

Ain't it always the way. The honest person who loves his family, obeys the laws and pays his taxes has to pay a fee to exercise his 2nd amendment rights while the crooks and street punks break the the law and gets his fingerprints taken for free.

Then we have to cloth and feed him plus take care of his medical needs.

FL is $75 for the license, $45 for fingerprint processing, and postage if you wish to get picky about it.

In Texas now it lists the price at $70 but special categories, senior citizens 65 and over and veterans is half price or $35.

Virginia:

- complete the application
- provide either DD214 (mil discharge papers) or cert from online class or other training
- $15.00
- wait 5 min while they do a BG check
- take the oath
- depart with your CWP
