Hello everyone. I'm in a bit of a debate on what to do. I should be getting my permit in a few months and need some help deciding what to get for my first pistol. I have narrowed it down to a few options with a few requirements. Technically this isn't my first pistol because I have owned pistols before in another state but since moving something like 8 years ago I am getting my permit again and want to get a carry gun. Things have changed since I last owned pistols so for the time being I am thinking Ill have one pistol for a bit before I get a few more.

I have decided on a budget of $500 to go into the gun shop with. So please keep that in mind. I don't mind having to pay tax or possibly an extra $50 at the counter but I would rather not have a post flooded with people suggesting looking into the 75th anniversary addition of the Springfield armor 1911 that goes for $850 and can be found on sale one time a year for about $560. Thats not helpful to me and not within the range I am looking for.

So budget is $500. I would like a 3.5"-4" barrel as I find I shoot a glock 19 better than I can shoot a G43. I also want an optic cut slide for a Riton tactical 3 pnrd. I already have the optic hence why I am a bit specific with the Shield rmsc cut pattern.

So far I have narrowed it down to these 5 pistols

1. Canik tp9 sc elite- I have heard this is an amazing pistol for the price and its hard to beat with all the extras that come with it.

2. Shield Plus- I had a Shield when they first came out and its replaced my G19 due to its slim size and weight of it. I still have sights I had planned to put on it and a holster for it that I have heard the Plus will fit in

3. Sig p365- Very customizable but also have heard its a bunch of hype compared to a lot of the other stuff on the market

4. Glock G48 MOS- Like the slim size and the g19 barrel plus it fits an optic

5. Taurus G3 TORO- Cheap but have heard its a pretty accurate shooter and seems to be similar to the g48

This is not in order of what I prefer but just as I thought of them as putting it down. Sorry for the long post.

Sig 365 and needs no custom features unless you want to do the Wilson grip. My next choice is a Shield. Just remember, if you make it too heavy or awkward to carry, you will leave it at home.

I like my 365, but it has no bells and whistles on it.

Since you're familiar with the Shield, that would be a good pick.

Since you like the Glock 19, a 48 would be a good one too.

When I was still a cop I carried a Glock 43x off duty and a S&W 642. But since I retired I have changed up my carry rotation. I am still carrying my 642 and was carrying my bodyguard in my front pocket. I decided I will be carrying an M&P 2.0 compact and a shield 2.0 as my daily carry guns.

Sig P365XL for me. Invested extra in a Holosun 507 on it. I liked it so much I bought a second one, but have left the optic off. Both cost me a bit over $500, but that was three years back. Not seen one new for less than $700 now, at least in my area.

Shield Plus or P365, whichever you shoot best.
Personally, I found the Shield Plus to shoot better for me but was just as concealable (ymmv).

I’m a Glock guy so I’ll say G48 MOS.

I can’t shoot a slimline so it’s G19 MOS with a Holosun SCS for me.

I regularly carry a Shield 9mm in town and a 45 Shield everywhere else........Don't like glocks or taurus's.......You poll has some voids.

There could be voids but I’m not seeing them. I’m open for suggestions

Have you looked at the M&P 2.0 3.6 compact? I kind of think you won't be disappointed. Just sayin'.

Yes I have looked at them the only issue I see is no optic mount versions that I’ve seen and price. I haven’t seen one under $600

If I didn’t already have a G26 and a bunch of mags, that also fit my 9mm AR pistol, I’d own an Sig 365. No interest in any of the others.

Well, I'm a Shield fan...

I have an original Shield and Shield EZ. The Tauruses are good for the price and I can't stand Glocks for all kinds of reasons. I didn't vote because I don't have experience with the list. But if I did I'd go for the Shield Plus and the Sigs are very nice. And yeah, I hear good things about the Caniks but it's not high on my list.

I think your shopping list includes some of the finest pistols available for EDC, so just about any one of those will satisfy your needs. But my vote goes to the Performance Center M&P Shield Plus 9mm. The PC comes with FO sights, ported barrel, and improved trigger package. It's extremely accurate and easy to shoot, it allows fast follow up shots, and the sights are very nice. Since I primarily pocket carry my EDCs (rotate between PC Shield Plus and 642-2), I don't use a red dot optic for fear of snagging. I do occasionally use an AIWB Crossbreed holster, so I chose my PC with the thumb safety. I recently purchased and installed an extended thumb safety for quick and easy operation and it doesn't interfere with my pocket holsters. I think that what is most important is that the pistol fits your hand and that you can instinctively point shoot with it. To me, RDOs are not an advantage when using a defensive pistol at close up distances. Good luck with your decision.

The M&P 2.0 Compact should be on the list. There are lots of different configurations to choose from. I'd look at the standard compact 3.6" barrel version. I like the manual safety, but that's a preference.

The P365 has a lot of configurations also, and you can buy one configuration and morph it into another one.

Also, if you want thinner, the Hellcat and Hellcat Pro should be looked at also. Lots of firepower for the size.

I'd drop the G48. It's a big gun for small capacity. And while the capacity can be increased with aftermarket magazines, that means you have to use aftermarket parts of unknown reliability.

Your list is limiting. Why?

There may be better choices.
