Howdy moose21. Welcome to the forum.

I have an old 4566 that I never had a holster for until recently. Someone was selling a leather Safariland paddle holster for it cheap, so I grabbed it. As you know, the gun is a heavy piece when loaded, but this holster does the trick. It is an OTW style with a thumb break, so you would have to get creative with your clothing to carry it concealed. If I was ever to consider carrying this gun, it would be in colder weather where I could wear an oversized sweatshirt or sweater to cover it up.

There are many other IWB holsters made for this gun as well, but I find the gun too wide for IWB carry.

For the past two days I have been carrying a 4506 under knit golf type shirts. The gun is being carried IWB at about 3:30 with 15 degrees of forward cant. The whole secret to hiding these guns is to get the grip closer to a vertical position which has the effect of shortening it for concealment purposes. At the same time the forward cant also makes a longer barrel easier/more comfortable to conceal.

S&W .45s can be heavy, but they are relatively thin. When I carry these guns I use the same hole on the belt as I would if I was not carrying. The belt fits a little more snug but that helps to hold the gun in position. I also wear the same size pants as I would when not carrying the gun.

Are you going to carry inside the waistband (IWB) or outside the waistband?

A good belt is essential to effective concealment and carrying comfort. It's easier to get away with a crappy belt with IWB carry but it's still better to spring for a quality gunbelt. It doesn't have to be some 1 3/4" wide trucker belt, either. I've carried a 4" .44 Mag on a Kramer belt that was only 1 1/4" wide in comfort for 12+ hours at a time.

You have to adjust your clothing, as well. If you wear a t shirt and jeans you can get away with carrying a large piece, but you've gotta have a good holster and belt.

Effectively carrying and concealing a large pistol requires a commitment to proper gear and proper wardrobe.

It ain't easy, but it can be done.

I use a G&G pancake holster for a Sig 220, with a 511 belt. Very comfortable and conceals my 4566 under an untucked shirt.

Pulls the butt of the 4566 in close to your kidney, yet allows a fast presentation. Hope this helps. Regards 18DAI.

Good stiff belt, pulled snug and a pancake holster behind the strong side hip. This will conceal the best with most men.

+1 for the Safariland pancake. I used one daily for about 10 or 12 years to carry first a 4516, then a 645, and finally a 4566 all in the same holster! All I had to do was to change the tension on the screw adjustment a little as they are all different thicknesses. This is the thermoplastic model with synthetic black leather covering, no thumb snap. There are several models available with or without thumb breaks, etc. These holsters are extremely reliable. I used this holster with the 4516 during a grueling two week tactical speed shooting course at FLETC and the gun never came out unless I pulled it out, even while running and shooting from every imaginable position. I still use the holster today.

thanks for the advise' the holster I have I got with the gun is outside the wastband it a police holster and sticks out a lot it was hard trying to hide it...
