Carrying at Work.

My company had a policy no carry allowed. I did not carry, although there were a few times I wish I had. I'm retired now and do what I want, but its really a simple choice. If you value your job, do as they say. Simple.

What ever your choice is though - your employment record will look a lot better is you terminate yourself BEFORE you get caught.

None of the places I work have a policy one way or the other. It's been my experience in the past that any policy will forbid it, so asking for one would have a negative effect even if you don't get fired.

I carry and some of my co-workers think I probably do. No one knows for certain and so far no one has asked.

They aren't asking and I'm not telling.

There's absolutely nothing mentioned in the workplace policy about weapons of any kind. The building itself is not posted. I'll take my chances.

Are they legally able to terminate me for something that isn't in a policy?

As stated above, if management has to answer the question, they'll
assume it's a public statement that they are making. At that

If you are sure there is no company policy about it, then if you bring it up I can guarantee you the company will say no.

Is this a privately held company? if so, and the owner is a gun advocate, you might get a green light. But I highly, highly doubt it. Publically traded company, no way.

Furthermore, the owner of the building may have in the lease agreement with your company a rule about no weapons, etc.
So, that would obviously prevent you from CCH inside too.

The safest thing is to ask HR, knowing they will ultimately say NO and then have to update the company policy.

Or you could never say anything and just carry. Realize it might be discoverd one day and then you have to deal with it.

But, you like your company and you don't want or need to get in trouble, and the work area including parking lot is very safe barring some crazy person, right?

You could leave your gun in the trunk, assuming you have a trunk, while in work since you are located in a crime free area. Or locked in the vehicle out of sight if no trunk.

I would try to find out what my employer's views are, and just how strongly he feels about them. Then I'd have a decision to make. Conceal carry is not, philosophically, the same as sneaking a gun into the workplace on your person.

If I had a job that would allow me to carry, I would. But unfortunately, I work at the city airport and all employees have to go through a metal detector before entering the property.

I wouldnt bring it up. Chances are if your company puts it to a vote. The majority will vote for no guns. Especially if they dont extend their right or privelage to carry one or they are simply afraid of what they have no knowledge about.

I prob would. When I was in that type situation, I would have, but my company AND building had strict limits about CC. However, I would often travel in a rental car, and I ALWAYS carried. At that point, I could care less what the company rules were! It was me against the world on the road! the old 'better judged by 12 than carried by six' thing.

These days, I am in a remote/home office. Long ways away from the glass house. I carry every day, all the time.

C-TPAT is a government certification for importers to go through to say that 'we do all we can do not harbor the importations of drugs/terrorists etc.'

Since it sets pretty strict limits on how our office has to be laid out, types of doors and locks we can have, etc....thought it might have some impact.. Haven't been able to find anything on the web about it, thought someone here might know.

My boss would probably fire me if I didn't carry. I just have to be discreet with his associates and all that. I'm just an old cabana boy as far as they're concerned.

it is stated on our employee handbook that no firrearms are allowed on the property. We are not even allowed to carry them on our vehicles. Knives are also a no-no. I know of a few people that have had their carry weapon in the building. i never had my carry piece inside.

In Indiana they can't regulate whats in your car.

The whole point of concealed is that your weapon must be concealed. I carry while at work and have a Nevada CCW. No one knows. No one should ever know. Don't ask about policy. Don't tell anyone. Make sure your weapon is properly concealed. Every minute of every day, at work or not, your weapon simply does not exist to anyone except you.

In Ohio if the company wants to enforce a policy of NO CARRY OR POSSESSION EVEN IN THEIR PARKING LOTS,

You CAN and PROBABLY WILL BE FIRED, those company policies have been to the Appelate Courts and upheld.

The last co. I worked for did not allow it but, I was responsible for shut down at the end of 2nd shift on Friday night. It was a desolate part of town and no other businesses running even 2 let alone 3 shifts. Therefore I would slip my Bersa Thunder 380 in my pocket and bring it in and lock it in the office until shut down and it would then again be in my pocket as I locked it all down for the weekend. Was never asked about it and never told.
