Long ago Johnny Carson quipped that California did have 4 seasons: mud, flood, fire and rain. They had rain earlier in the year, now I guess it's fire season.

I'm not really following the story, but I did catch an interview with one guy who'd now been burned out for the third time. One might think that at least after the second time, he'd have twigged that he'd chosen a bad location.
During a work assignment in Cali back in the 80's, I saw houses built in places where one wonders about the sanity of the buyers. OTOH, I don't have to drive all that far to see other folks who've made dubious choices. Maybe the price was right.

There is a difference between "I don't know if I'd have bought it." and "You gotta be ***** kidding me!"

One thing that seems to missing in all of the many news conferences is the cause of these fires. The few times it is mentioned the response is, "it is under investigation".

My bet is a 'homeless fire', before political correctness the were called 'hobo fires'. There are several encampments located out of the way in these hills and brush areas; few if any are being careful when making camp fires.

According to LAFD data in a May 2024 report, there were 13,909 homeless fires in Los Angeles in 2023, almost double the number of such fires in 2020.
