Well, I'll be darned, I guess you can teach an old dog!
(PS HoneyBun wants me to point out that Vate is at her resplendent best thanks to the horse wash done by herself and our eldest daughter. It's not often that you see either of us looking that good. Also, she did the photography using our handy little Konica/Minolta digital camera.)

Bob,
It looks like we have the same idea! This is me and Winchester at the National Appaloosa Horse Show last year, July 2008.

You guys are looking pretty good. My father started out his Army career in the horse cavalry and ended up in Field Artillery after he lost his horses. Because the FA was still using mules and horse drawn cassions that is where they sent him.

Somewhere in all of the pictures the family has is several pictures of him mounted and dismounted.

I think my estranged sister has them now.

Looks good to an old Calvary vet(4th Squ.7th Calvary Garry Owen

Very well done! Do you and Winchester re-enact?

FWIW my goal is to have cavalry "rig" for Civil War, Spanish American (1st Vo. Cav.), and 1930s. One of the nice things about the 1930s is you can wear cotton instead of wool.

So, just to show that I can do the video thing again.....

Bob,
This is the other uniform I use, an 1868 cavalry Lt Col. In the first picture, I portray Col D.C. Cabel, who was Gen Pershing's chief of staff during the Punitive Expedition of 1916 and later was the commanding officer of the 10th Cavalry. I don't re-enact; I show in the Heritage class in the Appaloosa Club and participate in Cowboy Mounted Shooting. I have one other uniform, an 1870's cavalry Sgt Major, which is not as complete as the other two. In addition to winning at the 2008 National Show, I placed 4th at the World Appaloosa Show in Ft Worth in 2007, and have won the Dixie National Show six times, using the 1868 and 1916 uniforms (bragging rights). I have a complete list of my uniforms and equipment, much of it is original, particularly for the 1916 uniform. Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll send it to you.
