I travel all over for my job and sometimes the fastest path to where I'm going goes through a state that doesn't honor my ccdw license. What would be the best way to go about my trips. Would I be better off to take the long way around and avoid those states if possible?

What if I end up having to work in a state that will not honor my license how should I go about transporting my gun in a legal way?

If the state you're traveling through has reciprocity with your state you're fine to carry, otherwise travel in accordance with state law. You'll have to figure that out by doing some research on the states through which you'll be traveling.

I travel through Illinois sometimes. If the weapon is disassembled, it is a collection of parts technically speaking, and as long as you don't have anything that is independently unlawful in those states (ie some hi-cap magazines), you should be alright. I believe in most states, as long as it's not readily accessible, you're okay.

Because there is so much variance from state to state it is necessary for the carrier to constantly check for what is legal. As has been indicated, it could be legal today and not tomorrow. Good luck on staying on top of the issue as you travel.

I would check the websites for the state police for every state you will be traveling through, they usually have all the info you need. If they don't actually list the info you need, give them a call.
