Dog229 Here,
How does this ammo do when used in 22 revolver like the 617 10 shot. I was never able to find any back in the past when it was cheap but today i did come across some.
Thanks for any opinions!

It should be fine, but pricey! I've never been able to see a difference between it and CCI sv in handguns or my rifle.

Green tag 22

Back in the late 80's I did extensive testing on 22 ammo. My brother helped. We had M-17 , Diamond back, Ruger Super single
Hi-St HD Military, Browning Challenger , Ruger MK-1 Target. We also did 10 rifles. We used CCI Rem Win PPC and Fed. We used
all types of ammo each had on market. In the pistol department
we found that Win. HV-HP shot as well as any of the target grade. That was with the exception of the Ruger Super Single
that liked CCI Mini Mags. Not to say Green Tags are no good, just
that it's not necessary. We did find that Remington 541s and the
Ruger 77/22 liked Green Tag. ( We only used 22lr ) Worst ammo
was PMC Target, it was beat out with promo lines of bulk.

What you can take away from Drm50's post is that certain guns prefer certain ammo - with no consistency. His Model 17 may shoot best with CCI HV, while another may shoot best with Remington SV.

I wouldn't buy a ton of CCI Green Tag until you find out how it shoots in your gun. You need to do some range testing with various brands and types of .22 LR to see which one your Model 17 likes best.

Adios,

Spending lots of dollars to put CCI Green Tag ammo through run-of-the-mill factory pistols is gilding the lily at best. A major waste of your money.

Really, the only time Green Tag is worth it is if you are an Elite shooter with a fabulously accurate custom 22.

That said, it's your money so do what you want.

Green Tag is great ammo but unless you are a damned great shot (Olympic team or similar) I doubt you could really discern the difference between CCI standard velocity and it. For 99% of us probably not worth the double cost, but shooting is a mental game also, so if you feel it helps you and you compete, use it. Otherwise CCI SV, Mini Mags (hi-vel.) or Federal or American Eagle (hi-vel) works pretty well for me.

One other thing I'd like to mention while we're at it............

I have a CZ 453 American .22 with a single set trigger and a 3-9 Leopold Scope which I consider to be competition grade rifle - even though it's not set up to look like one. It will consistently shoot one hole groups at 100 feet all day long when bench resting it on sand bags. Will do that with just about any ammo including Winchester Wildcats, Federal, American Eagle, etc (all high velocity ammo). I was curious what it would do with real target competition ammo so I bought the two top of the line Eley offerings which are standard velocity and world renown for accuracy. The CZ HATES the Eley! I could not group better than 1/2" groups with it. I called CZ and they confirmed that their barrels are slightly tighter and won't shoot true target grade ammo as well as the run of the mill hi-vel stuff. Since the Eley is so expensive and the CZ handles all other promo ammo so well, I could not be happier......... :)

My model 41 also shoots about anything fairly accurately, but it really likes the CCI SV 40 grain or the Remington Target SV. When I used to run .22 matches at our Club most shooters used the CCI or Remington SV 40 grain ammo, not Green Tag or Eley.

My M18, M63, Colts, Marlins, Winchesters, don't get too fussy and I usually use what ever Hi-Vel 40 grain stuff I have.
