CCL Question

2 weeks ago today, hubby and I both applied for our CCL at the county probate court. I don't remember them (at the court) telling us how long it would take to get the actual license, but rumors from the gun range say anything from 6 to 12 weeks. Women get theirs quicker because women don't usually buy a gun and shoot up the place. USPS informed delivery shows 2 envelopes to hubby and I from probate court to arrive today. Since this seems to me way to early for it to be my CCL, do they send flush letters? Or any other communication before they send the CCL? Our mail doesn't come for another 10 hours....

I believe that most states have variations in their process of issuing permits and it may be handled by more local entities in some jurisdictions. It is possible that your state/jurisdiction has an extremely efficient operation, but that would certainly be an exception to most governmental processes.

Without knowing where you are, it is impossible to make a good guess.

We are in N Metro Atlanta, Gwinnett County. Our state gun laws seem pretty good, but that speaks to nothing about admin of CCLs.

Really? Women's applications go into the don't bother-to-check pile?

In Ohio, CCL's are handled through the Sherrif's office. The original law mandates, 2 weeks after application it must be STAATED. When I first applied in 2008 women took 2 to 3 days and men took the maximum allotted time.

At our last renewal, Mine was next day and my wife's was handed to her.

Currently the requirement to have a permit will expire next month, we will continue to renew ours as we travel to other states that require a permit, and the Peoples Republic of New Jersey, which is a go to jail state.

I am also in Gwinnett and my 1st permit was days and renewals are given in hand before I leave. Hope yours is as quick. What did you think of the "fingerprinting process " using the glass plate fax/computer?

CCL Option

Several years ago, on this S&W Blue forum, on a similar thread, I posted a description of a strange anomaly, that prevents me from renewing my CCL license. Just for stuff & giggles, I’ll do it again; For some unknown reason, my fingerprints completely disappeared.

No fingerprints, no CCL license.

My wife and I went back to using our original permit to carry. I.e. the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the USA. It works perfectly.

As long as you don't travel and try to carry concealed that will work I guess .

Local sheriff’s office does it here. I don’t remember how long the initial license took back in 1989 when Oregon went shall-issue. Since then I haven’t paid attention to the renewal times since they give you a receipt at renewal which works as your CCW until your new one arrives in the mail.

Ha! The Nevada legislature upped the possible wait time to 120 days a few years back at the behest of Metro (LVMPD), I believe. When asked they have always mumbled about "being thorough". To some degree I see their point, as the Las Vegas valley is largely populated by people from other places, and who knows if their name carried over. But 120 days?

My buddy said it didn't take him that long to get an interim clearance for some .gov work, so it begins to look like Metro drag their feet because they can. God forbid we actually set sensible limits on getting stuff done on a public body.

Georgia doesn't have a CCL.We have a Weapons Carry License. Carry anyway that you feel comfortable. Men and women have everything ran the same way, so no discrepancies in time for license to arrive. Check out GA 2A and Georgia Packing. Org.
