I have tried several holsters, one with the Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm and the other with the Ruger LCP and found both very uncomfortable. What do you use while in the car and driving for either of these pistols?

The LCP might work IWB appendix while behind the wheel. That's how I carry my J frame.

I recently found two old Bucheimer "Semi Shoulder" holsters on an auction site. One fits a J frame and the other fits an L or N frame, 3 inch. I find this comfortable while driving and it's ability to easily be slipped on/off is a plus.

The only problem is the company went out of business some time in the 1970/1980's and locating one of these holsters is becoming difficult.

a cross draw holster should work for you if they make them for your gun, anyone know of a good one for a j-frame.

J Frame, K Frame or full size Beretta M9, strong side with a little bit of FBI tilt seems to ride just fine for me while driving. Chevy Van captain's chairs. Perhaps that makes a difference vs some kind of smaller car with squinchy bucket seats and center console.

I have the same problem. Either uncomfortable or can't remove from holster with stopping the car and unbuckling seat belt. Could use a shoulder holster but not interested so I put in console. Easy access.

This setup puts my Bodyguard 380 in the perfect position. Made it myself. Belt rotates to adjust access, AND to put holster out of sight when I'm out of the car. Holster is removable if necessary.

Easy and inexpensive to make.

I generally recommend using the same equipment all the time. I carry the handgun that I train with and I carry it in the same holster at the same position every day. The fewer things that I have to think about while defending myself against an imminent threat the more likely I will be to survive.

The one deviation that I make from this is while driving on long trips. Then I use a horizontal shoulder holster. This provides reasonable comfort, allows reasonably good access while seated, and does not interfere with seat belts.

I carry a K Frame snubby (Model 64) everyday in a horsehide IWB manufactured by Lobo Gunleather and have driven up to 100 miles a day hundreds of times in total comfort.

I will admit I was leery of ordering a custom holster from a small manufacturer but where else is a lefty carrying a big revolver going to find a modern CCW holster?

No worries! The cost is in line with the major off-the-shelf guys like DeSantis or Bianchi, the delivery was 5 weeks and I was able to custom tailer the holster with options.

Talk to Roy and when you order explain your situation. He will talk about the angles and placement on your belt (And get a good belt. A cheapo will defeat the whole thing) to make it feel like you ain't wearing nuthin'.

I have a split seat, a full size 1911 fits very comfortably in there.

It really depends where on your belt you wear it. If forward of 3 o'clock position for a right hander it doesn't matter what holster you have, it will be uncomfortable. The exact opposite for a left hander. Having had to sit in a patrol car for years with a full rig on, I can tell you depending on what's on the belt and where positioned, it may just be a case of having to get used to it.

Take a look at the Don Hume line, sold by Gun Holsters and Gun Belts. Brad is one of the nicest guys you will ever buy from.
