I have been looking for after market "high horn" grips that came on the early model 40 centennials and have found none.

Wanting these "high horn" grips in other media (stag, horn, fake ivory or M.O.P.) and can not find any grip makers offering them, not even in wood.

Can anyone point me towards grip makers that make them.

Thanks,Paul

They are referred to as "High Horn", not big horn. To the best of my knowledge there is no stock maker that lists an after-market High Horn stock for the original Centennial/Model 40. I have been looking for years.

Check the vendor posts in that sub-forum. There are several custom stock makers on the forum who may be willing to entertain making a one-off of the correct style.

Are the grips for the early model 40 Centennials different than the newer Centennials like the 442 & 340? I'm still learning here, sorry for the newbie question.

I stand corrected. Thank you for the information. I have ordered a few J frame rnd. butt grips and will wait to see how they look and feel on the gun.

Yes, my picture above shows the smooth high horn grip used on early models.

Just a heads up that the early Centennials (up to 70's era) have much smaller metal washers inside ,

Basically older Centennial grips only fit Centennials.

The only maker I've found who used to sell Centennial grips as a catalogue regular production item was Jay Scott, and they're fairly hard to find today:

Any others you'll find will be for later Centennial frames and they will not work on older grip-safety Centennials. Jay Scott is long out of business so custom is the only way to go nowadays.

Thank you for the post with the picture. Sometimes I need visual aids to comprehend what I'm being told. :)

Both Keith and Engine49 have helped to solve a problem with a nice made to measure Herritts grips I bought on Ebay. They appear to be for a early Centennial with the small disc. Now I need to find one in order to use these neat little grips.

I almost bid on a J frame in bad shape just to get the stag grips on it.
