When I was a kid, growing up in the 1950's, I enjoyed a bowl of cereal and milk for breakfast.

As I grew into my teen aged years, I found sleeping late more enjoyable than breakfast, and eschewed the morning meal pretty much until after I retired about 15 years ago.

I went back to the old routine of a bowl of sweetened cereal with whole white or chocolate milk while perusing the Forum, whenever "morning" happens to arise (I love being retired!)

Anybody else do the cereal and milk thing?

John

Have eaten about cereal there is -
My Lady MD wants to go low sugar, Sugar.
Most prepared cereals including my Fav Raisin Bran are sugar loaded.
Happened to see a lady on TV making Soaked Oats.
She used regular Oats and soaked overnight.
That's not the real me!
So I make it with Quick Oats, Low Fat Milk, Sweetener.
Stir, add usually frozen fruit. Eat it!
So with the Oats and avoiding kryptonite - the end is not in sight.
This thread needs music.

When my brothers were little kids, they went to a day care/pre school while my mother worked, and my father went to school. They were given breakfast every day. The first day they go up to get their food and the lady asked if they wanted hot or cold breakfast. My older brother said hot, probably thinking of bacon and eggs. He got a bowl of hot "oatmeal mush". My younger brother, seeing this, asked for cold, thinking he would get Cheerios or Frosted Flakes. You guessed it. A bowl of cold "oatmeal mush". They both grew up loving cereal and milk. Oatmeal? Not so much.

As a bicyclist I find they make an excellent breakfast, full of good carbohydrates and natural sugars. I drink 2% milk bur find 4% goes better with cereal.

Love all those kids cereals with cold milk. Could kill a box of Peanut Butter Capt Crunch, Fruit Loops, etc. after school - 70s and 80s. I wish I could still do that. I do, however, regularly eat Cream of Wheat and steal cut oats laced with brown sugar, maple syrup, berries, etc.

I get tied of "Meat & potatoes" all the time and do change off with a bowl of
Cream of wheat, Oatmeal, Shredded wheat and once in a while I sneak some of the wife's, Post Raisin bran.

Hotcakes or waffles, 6 times a year ?

I have cereal and skim milk 5 days a week. I have to stick with gluten free cereals so I usually have one of the Cheerios varieties. 2 days a week I usually fix eggs of some fashion and ham/bacon/sausage/goetta/spam/hash and a heated up pre-cooked hash brown patty. I typically eat a late breakfast and try to snack on fruit or something less healthy mid afternoon.
As a kid my dad got me up each weekday morning for school and he always fixed a big breakfast for us before he left for work.
I guess I've gone back to the old ways in my retirement.

Wheaties with skim milk and a bit of sugar.

Otherwise, oatmeal (usually instant) .

Jeez, I feel wanton choosing between store brand raisin bran and Life.
Yup. 2% too. Not every day, but many days.

Start with a layer of All Bran flakes or a reasonable facsimile, cut up a fresh date, arranged evenly. Sprinkle some chopped walnuts and drip about a teaspoon of local honey over the layer. Next, put a layer of another type of cereal that compliments the bottom layer. I have discovered the Kashi brand that resembles Shredded Wheat but comes in a variety of different flavors. On top of that you put on your blueberries and strawberries, if in season, and drown the whole mess with skim milk. While this has been going on, your blueberry bagel should be about toasted and you can spread some real butter and a little more honey on the slices. Top it all off with a big glass of V 8 juice and you are ready to tackle anything.

I've always been a cereal eater. I don't like the sweet stuff, so it's usually corn flakes, Cheerios or shredded wheat. But… with whole milk. That and a piece of fruit and I'm good.

When I have time, it's hot cereal. Bob's Red Mill 8-grain or McCann's oats.

Then there are the days for scrambled eggs, home fries and bacon. But then, that's not what we're talkin' about . . . .

Always home-roasted coffee. Every morning. But then, we're not talkin' about that either. . . .

I have never been a fan of any kind of cereal, hot or cold. I did eat rice krispies with milk and sliced bananas some when I was a kid.

My normal breakfast now is coffee, juice, a banana, and a piece of whole grain toast. For a treat it is toaster waffles with blueberry syrup or eaten out of hand with blackberry jam. Sometimes an egg or 2 with toast.
My Mother would eat cold cereal twice a day, breakfast and bedtime snack, usually cornflakes or raisin bran

Hay, there is noth'n wrong with chocolate milk...............
and if you want to be a little different ( Bay area child)
we even added "Pink Rabbit" to our milk !!!

Peace, baby.
