My EDC is a S&W Model 469. I carry with a round chambered and safety off. The 2nd (and 3rd) generation S&W pistols all have firing pin blocks, and a long DA trigger pull for the first shot, so I figure it's actually safer than carrying a revolver. However, I DO engage the safety prior to reholstering my weapon. IMHO a lot of negligent discharges occur during the reholstering of the weapon, when a trigger gets caught on clothing, part of the holster, etc. People get into too much of a hurry reholstering. I practice bringing the weapon back to my chest, search and assess, safety on, reholster, then safety back off. As usual, different people, different weapons, different training will dictate different methods - this is mine. YMMV.
