Chambered or no?

The Walther PPQ is a fully cocked striker fired handgun. With that being said, I'm still getting used to the weight with a loaded mag and refuse to chamber a round until I have a holster. My luck I'd manage a trigger pull and take off a butt cheek o_O

Still, it would not go off just cause.

I think overwhelmingly, the answer is, locked and loaded... One in the chamber. And it makes total sense. I will try it and see how it feels for awhile. I think ultimately I will be fine with it. And will just have to get comfortable with it. And I will! Thanks guys!

Sambuh, there are many thousands of us concealed carriers. If there were problems with guns suddenly going off for no apparent reason, I'm sure we would here about it.

Your concerns are normal for someone just starting out. You will get used to it. Your next concern will be that you think everyone can see your gun. If you have done things properly, they can't so don't worry about it. Go about your business as usual.

When you consider that it is desirable to draw from concealment and shoot accurately within two seconds, preferably 1.5 seconds, it is impossible to do so with an empty chamber.;)

Focus on the software (between the ears). The rest will follow.

I was so concerned when I first started carrying that I left my gun in a gun safe in the car with no chambered round just a loaded magazine.

Then one day I encountered a potentially bad situation where an old adversary was in the same store as I was but was apparently engrossed with something else and did not really notice me, let's just say that this guy would cause me problems that could involve bodily injury.

After quickly removing myself from the store I retrieved my gun and racked the slide and went home knowing that had I had the gun with me and had events warranted it I would have to use that weapon, no time to unlock a gun safe then get the weapon, and then rack the slide...nope I now carry concealed with one in the chamber at all times everywhere!

For anyone still undecided run a Youtube search on the topic. There are several videos showing someone being "attacked" while trying to chamber a round. Nobody was able to get a "shot" off before being seriously injured by the other actor.

In a real life situation you will have to react instinctively w/i a fraction of a second in a terror filled moment. I know b/c I've been there. If you don't see yourself carrying w/a round chambered get a revolver.

a good holster for your weapon would be a choice. belt that doesn`t bow over. testing a position on your hip to draw the weapon, that you are comfortable with. but my 2 cents on chamber or not for you. i`m sure in time you`ll come to a thought to chamber or not. a second is not much time to load the weapon. i`ve read that a perp has already deceided before he reaches you if he can do you or not.

Dont carry a gun unless its ready to shoot.

"Excuse me sir before I shoot you I need to load my pistol"

You never know what kind of situation you may encounter. Wanna bet you'll have time to chamber the round? Maybe, maybe not. I'm not betting on my, or a loved one's life.

A full mag and one in the pipe as I may need that one extra round. No time in a SD situation to be racking the slide or even taking the safety off.

I rarely carry an Auto-loader, but when I do it's a Colt 1911 Series 80 with a round chambered and the hammer down - perfectly safe with a Series 80. I was never one who likes condition one. 99% of the time I CCW a M60-7 or M65.

Interesting there are so many threads like this with people being concerned about c1 carry with an auto pistol, but no one thinks twice about carrying a revolver which is always c1 and has no external safeties. Just sayin....

You mean to say, it's basically always chambered? I just can't get into carrying a revolver, personally.

Re:always chambered. Exactly Sam. It was an observation,(and MHO), not a suggestion you get a wheelgun. There's no substitute for gun safety and training regardless of what you carry.

There is a difference between a striker fired or internal hammer auto and an external hammer auto. Larry

Makes sense... And now I'm seeing these snub 9mm revolvers!!! I'm hooked. :)

My normal EDC is a j Frame but when I carry my 645 it's in "Condition 2" (round is in the chamber, hammer down)
