When I took Grant Cunningham's Threat Centered Revolver course in Phoenix about three years back, he suggested that I might want to try carrying this.

It is an S&W model 610 wheel gun in 10mm Auto /40 S&W. It has been under consideration as an EDC for quite a while, but for myriad reasons I was not able to make the change until recently. I am accurate with it and the weight tends to tame the recoil of the 10mm round. The moon clips make reloading quite fast and the 10mm round's ballistics make me think that it would be a good fight-stopper.

The disadvantages of the package center around the weight and bulk of the revolver itself. There is a lot of weight to carry and for some, the size of the N-frame makes it hard to conceal. I'm a big guy so the size is less of a factor for me than it may be for others.

In any event, I've decided to give the 610 a try as my EDC and see how it works.

Thoughts?

More power to you guys who are willing to carry guns that big. Sincerely...not being a wise a**. My EDC is a Bodyguard .380. I carried a 642 for a long time, then went to a 640 Pro for a while, knew if I ever carried the 642 instead for a day I'd go right back to it, which I did. Now I'm back to the Bodyguard the vast majority of the time. On those rare occasions I want more horsepower, I carry a Shield .45. I've got a 4 inch Highway Patrolman. I can't imagine concealed carry with it. I am 6'2", 200 lbs.

I spent half of today helping my best friend unload a pod full of furniture for his son and daughter in law. Two 67 year old guys carrying furniture and major appliances into the house, and down the basement stairs. The great thing about the BG is it can be in your pocket and you forget it's even there. Never gets in the way, always there if needed.

Carrying a gun that size (and I do at 5'9" 180) is only possible in my opinion with a proper choice of belt, holster and cover garment. I would highly recommend a Kramer Belt Scabbard or similar quality maker.
Model 28 in Kramer
5" 1911 in Kramer and also shown in Milt Sparks
4" K frame
The Kramer MSP paddle is also an excellent holster.

Sorry for the photo orientation. They are correct when I select them ….

I carried a bigger, heavier gun when I was young but as I got older the guns tended to shrink. At 75 y/o my EDC is now a 340PD or LCP. My back & hip can no longer handle the weight of a bigger weapon.

I'm of the opinion that the 10mm is overkill in sd situations that don't involve a very large bear. For every day carry, an N frame isn't my cup of tea.

I primarily carry a custom Colt 1911 which is relatively easy to carry and a pleasure to shoot. The flat profile makes it much easier to carry and conceal than a revolver larger than a J frame. I primarily use a lightweight Commander, which weighs less (about half as much) than a 10mm revolver (26oz vs 50+oz).

Certainly, if all I had was the 610, I'd carry it, but if I have a choice, I'd go with the Commander. The 45acp does everything I need done with a pistol.

Here are two of mine, with holsters. One holster is built for adjustable sights and the other for fixed sights. Either is set to ride on my Ranger belt that I use to hold up my trousers.

Both revolver have 4" tapered barrels and are chambered for the 45 ACP cartridge. Been carrying a similar revolver for over three decades.

I think that is a fine choice of revolvers. Here is what I have been carrying of late:

A nice 3" 625-3 in .45 ACP because I like it and it shoots nice. I used it for this year's LEOSA/HR218 qualification and did fine. I carry it in a Milt Sparks PMK.

I have a Charter Arms Bulldog 45 LC snubby in my rotation. I reload so I'm able to tailor make manageable ammo.

I'm a fairly big guy 6'2" 225lbs and I even thought my short barreled SP101 was to bulky and heavy for edc. I like a j frame or P365 in front pocket. However when I'm outdoors and dressed accordingly an N L or K frame on my belt is the norm. I say carry what you like. I hope it works out for you.

That's an awesome woods gun! Too heavy for me in town tho… where the targets don't need the power, I'd rather carry capacity.

Very strong and powerful package - just a bit too heavy, bulky and cumbersome to carry 6 rounds. Big guy or not - why would you care to carry 50 ounces (when fully loaded) when there are so many other good choices.

But hey...... if it works for you - carry it. To me it would be a range and woods walking gun.
