Wife has THIS. Problem is the stock is fixed and a bit longer than what she wants. So, can someone tell me how to change it to an adjustable stock? I don't believe it is as simple as buying the adjustable stock from Magpul. I believe you have to change the recoil tube and the stock spring. Please advise. TIA

So this isn't a big problem, you will need to replace your "buffer", "buffer tube", and "recoil spring" to Carbine from Rifle..

If you log in to 308 AR Forum, it will be on that forum somewhere? If you are brave, you can join and ask, but I would recommend a heavy carbine buffer, 5.6 ounces, maybe and orange recoil spring, and carbine buffer tube compatible with the DPMS platform, it is slightly different from the AR10 platform, although both DPMS and AR10(ArmaLite) are generically referred to as AR10's. Billy

So you will need a heavy 2.5" Heavy Buffer, (5.6 oz or so), 7" M4 Buffer Tube, and I would probably go with a lighter than the orange spring, maybe the Hot White or Blue on the Sprinco website... PM me if you like??

The challenge will be matching the buffer, spring, and gas output of "YOUR" rifle, once you do this, you may not be able to exercise your Smith and Wesson warranty

I changed the stock on my Knights SR-25 from a rifle stock to a carbine stock.
I used a carbine length mil spec 6 position buffer tube and a spring and buffer from this company:

The rifle is running fine with my hand loads.
And it will run amazing with this correct, heavy, matched "bottom end!!" Now if you do have issues, you may need to drill the gas port slightly oversize for a little more gas???

The DPMS and AR-10 platform is an amazing weapon system and a joy to shoot, but they often come "undergassed", my own Wilson Combat was a lazy ejector, it has always functioned and run, but it was severely under gassed when I bought it.. dribbling spent rounds onto the hood of my old farm truck, LOL, opening up the gas port has helped it.. It is very accurate, but needs to be shot a little get onto the large frame sporting rifle,, my best groups are around 5/8" at 140 yards, and I have always run an adjustable gas block.

My small frame 300 Ham'R is a very energetic ejector,, it hurls spent arounds out into a neat pile. I highly recommend the 300 Ham'R, also very accurate, and has run like sewing machine. The 5.56/223 necked up to 30 cal, is just a nice all round platform, and I can see the holes, unlike my 5.56 rounds, LOL
