A .22 in the hand beats a .45 in the safe any day of the week. I have a few .22 guns that I'd feel more thsn confident carrying. My favorite though is my 1961 made Walther PPK that came in before the 1968 GCA. A real interesting thing is that it was a CIA gun. My Uncle Mario, upon fleeing Cuba was hired by the CIA and helped organize and took part in the Bay of Pigs. After it was all said and done, they told him go buy yourself a gun, we'll pay you back. So we went and bought that and carried it throughout his career. Why a .22? Because in Latin America, where he worked, a .22 was common among the citizenry. Especially when he was stationed in Mexico, Venezuela, and Argentina.
It wouldn't look out of place by the local authorities for a man of money (he acted as a well to do Cuban from Miami doing business in Latin America) to be carrying such a gun, especially when the State Department made sure he had all the legal documents for carrying.
Anyways, he retired and gave it to me.
