A bunch of videos say the sights on M&P pistols are super tight. Guys beating them with punches and hammers. I don't really trust my local gunsmith. He's a good guy but I don't want to spend over $100 only to have the new sights broken trying to install them.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated. I know I can send the slide into Trijicon and they'll install them but then I wouldn't have the gun for a while.

Need to presoak with oil for few hours , I drifted or better word banged the sights on my Shield few years ago . Had my M&P 2.0 sights installed by gunsmith $35 no damage.

Yeah, you can bubba-beat them, but you're better off using a proper sight tool, or, having a competent gunsmith do it for you.

I have changed sights on 6 or so M&Ps. The full size pistols didn't take alot to get them moving. The few Shields...... well thats another story. The front sight I've had the most problems with. I've heated them with a heat gun. To break the seal of lock tight from the factory. The last Shield took quit a bit of persuasion to move with a brass drift and a hammer. Which I had the slide clamped in a vise, use leather or plastic vise jaw attachments. Fitting the new sight is not that difficult just take your time with 600-1000 grit sand paper to get a good fit to the slide. Taking small amounts of material off the bottom of the sight base. (This is all for the front) I usually like to get the front sight to move in a little less than half way fitting it then tap in in the rest of the way with a brass drift and a small hammer.
