Chantix--Anyone Used it

Chantix worked for me. Made the butt taste s##t. I'd smoke but didn't get anything out of it. I did have to fight the urge to climb a water tower with my rifle

just kidding!
It did work, been 6 months I don't even get the urge to smoke anymore.

Chantix helped me kick a 40+ year smoking habit. Slowly cutting down while the drug takes away the "kick" from the cigarettes. Quit using the pill after 3 weeks, that was 1 year 4 months ago.

Ya still got to actually want to quit, and the sudden 1.50/pack increase in prices helped.

Did not work for me. Initially it was fine. At about the 4 week mark I started having anxiety attacks and was pretty damned depressed all the time. Stopped taking it and about a week later I was back to my normal self. Not using anything at the moment.

I quit cold turkey about 8 months ago. Only smoked for about four years though. Those butts started tasting terrible with no medication! Just remember, you have to physically pick up that cig, put it in your mouth, and light it to be a smoker. If you dont do that, you wont be a smoker! Its an excellent study in will power. A strict Yoga regiment also helped me a lot. Get exercise!

Resurrecting this thread because my wife, Luscious is on the stuff. Anyone else take it for a couple of weeks with little problem then suddenly experience undesirable personality changes? I've some concern and all I read on the Web are anonymous horror stories.

They only way to "quit" smoking is to stop smoking and get support there is no magic bullet. Just like AA.

Nicotine is one of the most addicting drugs and cigs are the best delivery sytem known. Faster than a IV needle.

The nicotine leaves your system in 2-3 days. The rest is up to the individual. Go the American Lung Association get all the info they will send, buy self help books, find a Nicotine Anonymous Group even if you are not "religious"

I smoked for over 30 years, drank too much also.

Been there done that got the t shirt (chips):)

She really needs to talk to her dr.These drugs all have side effects that vary from one person to the next.Spooks the hell out of me.I'm still trying to quit the hard way.Down to 5 a day and getting a lot of excercise.

Chantix worked for me.
I started smoking when I was 12 and for the next 47 or so years I was smoking 2-4 packs a day of Camels and/or Camel filters.
I tried to quit and tried - Once made it for 6 months....
It took me twice on the Chantix - First time they gave me GAS - BAD GAS! The kind that doubles you over and keeps you there for a while. Dr. told me to quite immediately. I went back to smoking that week :(
Next time I took Gas-X with the Chantix and it worked. I only took them for 2 or 3 weeks and have stayed quit for 2 1/2 years now.
Still have VIVID - WEIRD dreams though. Rarely nightmares....

Fodder for another thread maybe - - - I like nightmares :)

I used it and quit smoking for a year and started again. I wouldn't recommend it for the side effects already noted.
The plus side was my dreams in techno color though. I had some good ones with my long departed parents too.

I am the original poster on this thread. Chantix worked for me without any side effects. I have not smoked a cigarette in 2 1/2 years and have no desire to. I smoked for 40 years and tried everything. I was expecting some wild dreams but never got any. Did not expierence gas either. No mood swings that I know of. My brother also tried it to stop dipping. Also worked for him. He did change moods some though. Became a little irritable and did not have much patience while he was taking Chantix. He completed the prescription and has not dipped in over a year. I guess it works for some and not others. Depends upon your chemical make-up I guess.

She's on it because the way I quit didn't work for her (I'll be "clean" for two years on the 29th). She wasn't even going to tell me she was quitting because she didn't want to announce anything then have it not work but thought better of it and I'm glad she did tell me.
For the first couple of weeks it went as I expected it would - like so many other "cures" it's an aid and not a panacea. She seemed okay and said it did make it easier not to smoke. But 2-1/2 weeks in, her mood changed drastically. She did call her Dr. who told her to stop taking it and she has been off for it 48 hours. She's still not quite right.

I quit smoking by using cajun nicorette A\K\A Levi Garret plug :D
Course it took me a while to quit the plug ;) Ultimately though I did quit it all, cigarettes, cigars, pipe, chew, dip and snuff. DO I miss it-not really. Been 6-7 years. COuld I go back and pick it up again???? In a New York second!!!!! Tobacco is THAT addictive!

Tried it twice a couple of years ago. Stayed quit for a year but started again. Tried it the second time stayed quit about 8 months. Gonna try it again soon......I'm getting tired of smoking.

I tried it about 6 years ago, but stopped after I passed out at work. We were hoisting washed hose up the drying tower and I started to go down but was caught in time. I would've bounced my skull into the brick wall I was standing next to if I hadn't been caught. I had been taking it for about two weeks.

I'm the poster child for been there and done that. Must have quit at least a half dozen times. Most recently last Tuesday in New Delhi.

Here's hopin' it sticks this time.
