Hi Folks!

Can the M&P 15-22 use off-the-shelf, AR-style charging handle latches, like...

Find

Or does it require ones made for the 15-22?

Thanks!
Dave

Beltfed here on the forum makes a nice one that is extended. Lots of goos reviews on it. Check the classifieds.

No it can not, the charging handle on the 15-22 is smaller than the ones used in ar's.

Hey Dave, two reasons, the M&P 15/22 is still kinda new, one may show up soon. second, the charging handle is plastic and has a very short throw, it is possible with a larger size paddle, slamming it with the extra paddle could snap it off, break the handle T part. It would be nice to see a aluminum charging handle with med. latch. Stand by I'm sure we will be seeing more aftermarket soon. This 22 is rocking the 22LR world... Good luck.

Only one i know of and its mine.

Anyone know if Beltfed is around here at the moment? I'd love to get hold of one of his custom charging handle latches for my fresh new 15-22 :)

I've emailed/PM'ed him to see if he can ship to the UK, but just waiting to hear back...

Once again my caution:

The M&P15-22 is a plastic rifle. The charging handle is plastic as well and not as strong as a metal handle. Maybe (probably?) for a good reason.

I'd much rather break the plastic charging handle than the plastic upper receiver and then try to explain the broken receiver to S&W warranty service. ;)

Nothing wrong with the plastic handle in this rifle. Don't "fix" what ain't broken.

Good point, maybe the engineers designed the charging handle to be a weak link so not to crack the upper reciever. I guess putting an over sized latch is only for real LIVE FIRE situations for fast charging under LIVE life or death combat. Nothing wrong with outfitting the M&P 15/22 to function like it's BIG brother, but there may be a reason as some of the other guys have mentioned. Interesting question. I do like the aluminum one that "Low Down" posted, but if it was painted black and not powder coated I fear it will get all scratched up in weeks.. Later.

An extended charging handle latch has a couple advantages. It's easier to use with a scope on the rifle, one finger use, and it's excellent for operating with gloves on. And did I mention it looks  too? Here's a pic of Belt_Fed's (Member S&W Forum Vendor) extended charging handle latch on my 15-22. Perfect fit and installs in a minute. Been using it for many months and really like it.

Love the look and size of the latch. Where can I find one of those in the UK? Any ideas anyone?

Damn, this sure is a pain. Guess I would have to do same. However, I understand that Tacticool22 no longer makes his Charging Handles any more. Though I could I guess order some of the Mags loops from Tacticool and add it to that order. That may work? Hmmm. Shall have to contact Jody. See if that would be doable.
Thanks Keith.

Thanks guys, have looked at Doomsday, like the look of products but already noted they don't ship outside US. Thanks for feedback and advice so far tho guys. Have emailed Jody at Tacticool22 and just waiting to hear back before I go off and explore other avenues. Don't want to be messing people around with if but or maybe. Just want to broker an acceptable deal for everyone.

Mark.
