Hey guys,

Sorry for the newbie question: I'm completely new to the AR-type platform, let alone the M&P15-22.
After you pull back on the charging handle... I know you're supposed to just let it go and not "let it ride"... but is it necessary to pull back on the handle with a certain amount of force? Does that affect proper chambering at all? Or is it strictly in the force of the bolt coming forward?
I'm just curious as to whether you truly need to yank the CH back whenever you use it.

Thanks!

Treat it the same as as you would a semi-automatic pistol.

You don't ride the slide closed while chambering a round; you let it slap shut and start shooting.

You also don't want to ride the charging handle closed. On first loading (bolt open or closed) just pull back enough to release and let 'er fly. On reload drop the empty mag, slap in a fresh mag and use the slide release button on the left side on the side of the gun...

Let the action work for you - just sit back nice and steady and squeeeeeeeze...

The term "slingshot" is used to denote the motion used in handling a semi auto slide or in your question the proper motion of an AR platform charging handle. Use a "slingshot" release and you will get a good seating of the round in the chamber.
