Is there an advantage other than looks for the aluminum charging handle? Are the plastic ones breaking or wearing out?

Thank you

It's a mandatory replacement item. You see....the government has placed a micro transmitter in the factory handle. That way they can track your every move. Then take the old handle and hide it on a pizza delivery vehicle, that will confuse them!

I had a reason...

I'm a left-handed shooter and needed the PT ambi latch. If they sold it separately, I would have used it in my stock handle.

I took mine out and went to Walmart and the dam alarms went off at the door when I entered:confused:. They strip search me and my family :oand wanted to know what I did to set off the alarms. Three hours later they escorted us home and asked us not to return to the store again.:D

No reason to replace the handle, but the og latch "sucks", for lack of a better word. If you don't mind a little struggle with the pin, you can replace the latch easily with an ambi sws in an og handle.

The charging handle is like everything else on the 15-22 ... adequate for the rifle's intended purposes: plinking, AR trainer, etc.

However, many shooters change the butt stock, sights, quad rail, FCG, pistol grip, mag release button AND the charging handle and/or latch. Some change the safety selector to a metal, ambidextrous version, add a speed bolt release and even an ambi mag release.

None of these changes are necessary for proper basic functioning, but the folks making the changes either do them for cosmetic reasons or to better equip the rifle for their specific purpose(s) or both.

It's all individual choice and preference.

And then there are the color changes ... :D

My playing bank account has been crushed several times due to this mentality ;)

But it's fun, it's mine, and I like it!! :D
