Bear with me on this...
I just bought a new M&P 15-22 Sport MOE SL and took it to the range for the first time a couple days ago. I started stocking up on .22LR a couple years ago when I got a Ruger 22/45 to introduce my girlfriend to shooting. I kept buying various boxes from multiple manufacturers whenever I saw them on sale even though I wasn't shooting them.
So when I got my 15-22 I was anxious to try them out after hearing about all the problems on threads like this.
One thing I did read was to be careful about loading the magazines because the rounds are staggered in the OEM magazines. "Don't just pull the feeder/follower down and dump in rounds." So I loaded my 3 magazines ahead of time (no more than 5 at a time and letting the follower spring back each time) to capacity with several different types and carried a few other types in boxes to the range.
I get a discount for range fees if I buy ammo there so I asked the guy what type he'd recommend and he said "Mini-mags always work good". So I got a box of 100 to test out. After shooting all the pre-loaded magazines I loaded 10 Mini-Mags REAL quick to shoot them. 1st round, FTF. I popped the magazine out, ejected the FTF round, and made sure it was loaded correctly and re-inserted the magazine and it ran smooth (and very accurate).
After that I loaded several other brands including a ziplock bag of old, sticky, corroded .22LR I got from my neighbor. All worked flawless. So I guess what I'm trying to convey is that either I'm one of the lucky ones whose 15-22 eats anything or being aware when loading magazines helps with proper feeding, or both. The only problem I had in over 150 rounds of various manufacturers was the hastily loaded 'good stuff'.
