As a shooter new to this forum, I am curious what are the lowest prices anyone has found a shootable Smith for, say at a Pawn Shop, Yard sale etc.
Could look like a beaten up dog, I'm just wondering what is the absolute bottom of Smith pricing.

I saw a well used model 10 for $199 at a LGS. I passed on it, changed my mind went back the next day and it was gone.

I spent a bit more than the others, but...

it's a rare 3" Baby Chiefs Special. Seller on GunBroker listed it as a "Model 36" in December 2016. It was made four or five years before model numbers. $238. $35 for a new hammer, a bit of ATF, acetone and elbow grease.

I'm happy,

Bob

several years ago I walked into a small shop in my town and saw what turned out to be a very high condition Combat Masterpiece in the case. The owner who I had known for a number of years told me that a guy came through town needing gas. She never told me what she gave for it but I went out the door with it for $225. Her husband had passed away and she was in the process of selling the small business.

I see beat up top breaks for less than $200 all the time. "Shootable" is open to interpretation, as I'm sure a bullet would leave the barrel when the trigger was pulled, but it might not break skin past 30 paces.

The next cheapest might be the Sigmas, though I do see beat up M&P .38s for around $200 from time to time.

I'm sure the group that finds $800-$1200 dollar guns in their neck of the woods all day for half that price should be able to tell of some really cheap deals they bought.

Ran across an estate sale few months back. Got a '57 Combat Magnum, 29-2 4" Nickel Presentation, Boxed 66 ND snub. All under $500 each and in excellent condition.

I got this poorly refinished Model 34 and a few other non firearms things from a yard sale for a "C" note not that long ago

It shoots just fine :)

This nickel Model 37 was in a little pawn shop where the old owner is not a computer person and his kids/grand-kids have no interest in the business. So nothing ever goes on the Internet. I paid $225 for it

There are always great deals in the older Pawn shops where the kids don't want to take over the business

I bought a 3" Model 36 a couple years go for $200 at an auction because they sold it as refinished due to the gold "engraving". I took it home, wiped it off with Hoppes and the gold paint wiped right out of the factory barrel and side plate markings. I was left with a 99% original finish 3" 36.

Well, if autos aren't out of the running, I am seeing brand new S&W Shield 9mm's for $250. Two years ago, when I bought mine, they were going for $450. A heck of a STEAL on a name-brand popular, reliable and effictive firearm. I would buy my wife one in a heart beat but she is happy with her Ruger .380. Shucks, the Ruger ECP 9mm is selling for $249. Relly makes the Shield seem like a bargain!

A couple of years ago, Cabela's had a S&W 15-3 with pretty good bluing and tight lock up. $250. I had looked at it around 5 pm. Called at 9 a.m. the next morning and it was gone!!! The only reason I hesitated was that I had my Shield on layaway at another store.

About ten years ago my next door neighbor, a widow, asked me if I liked guns, I said heck yes. She asked me if I wanted to buy some, she wanted them out of the house. So she brought over a bunch of junk and a 4" Model 66 with stainless sights. I said I really don't want any of the junk but how much for the revolver? She said she'd take $150 for it.

I just couldn't take advantage of her but she refused to take more than $250 for it. I tried to tell her what it was worth but said $250 is the most I'd take from you. She's still around and I take real good care of my neighbor.

Revolver belonged to a Memphis policeman killed in the line of duty, her husband was a Memphis policeman, somehow he came up with it. She's not totally afraid of guns, she has a Model 12 in her nightstand and says she knows how to use it.

Cheapest recent one was a pretty decent M&P in .38 Special for $125 at a gun show. Not sure why it was so cheap, or how I found it before it wasn't already sold.

One of the best stories i've heard

I bought a "broken" model 13 no dash from a gun shop 7-8 years ago for $150. I bought a thumb piece and nut for $10 and literally screwed it on. It was fixed. No joke.

I hope ColbyBruce finds this thread. He told me a story about getting some really inexpensive guns.

Seen these,

New with loc/mim m58 41 mg in nickel $699. 4" barrel
New with loc/mim m57 41 mg in nickel $699. 6" barrel
New with loc/min m24 44spec in nickel $750. 6.5" barrel. Didn't want it but the price.

Used but never fired m29-10 in blue 6.5" barrel $699. Didn't need it but the price.

Pre 14, pre 15, k22 can be found affordable at times.

I bought a Ford Ranger 4x4.. $100 non runner.. towed it home found 1 wire disconnected. Sold it as a runner the next day for $1500. But that wasn't as good as the '65 Mustang.

I bought a Model 439 in very finish challenged but excellent mechanical condition for $75 in an online sheriffs auction last year.
I also bought a "broken" 1903 Colt that you couldn't move the slide for $150. Soaked it in Kroil for a few days and it was fine.

Ugly 439

Mint like new Smith SD 9 for 149 out the door . also a Smith 67 no dash, stainless sights 299 . I left but went back .

I still buy model 10's and 36's fairly often for $150-$200.
Last month I bought 2 model 15's for $250 each.
Maybe 6 months ago got a 3" model 66 for $500
Colt official police for $199

Revolvers don't go for much around here, and the market is fairly flooded with them.

Well, if you consider S&Ws bought for a lot less than they were worth to be "cheap," I have managed to buy two. Maybe five years ago, I was the only bidder - I have no idea why - on a 2-1/2" Model 66-4 being sold on GunBroker for the minimum bid price of $416. Its photos indicated it was like new and it was!

Recently, I bought a no-dash Model 67 is semi-rough shape - it had been polished and had some scuffs and scratches - with no stocks for $300. After $115 spent with my gunsmith for a restoration of the factory brushed stainless finish and a good internal cleaning and lubricating, it looks like new with a pair of nicely figured checkered target stocks I had on hand.

I was given, free gratis, a nice 2.5" Model 19 along with a Star BM.

A couple in my church were leaving for Spain, and hadn't taken steps to dispose of them prior to their Sunday morning flight. They met me in the parking lot of our church, and gave them to me along with some reloading gear. I had a couple of hundred dollars in my pocket, but they wouldn't take it from me.

I was given a 4 inch TPD Model 681, no box, with Pachmayr Grippers and a camo nylon holster, by my former next door neighbor Bill after he married a lady from church. Her husband had committed suicide with a gun, and she wouldn't have one in the house. Bill's wife had died from breast cancer leaving him with a 4 year old daughter to raise, and he wasn't a "gun guy." I tried to pay him, but he refused saying he'd been given the gun and trusted that I wouldn't do "anything stupid with it."

Unfortunately, I put Crimson Trace grips on it and showed it to my wife. She said, "Cool!" and "Thank you!".

Got a 19-3 RB snub for $350 at Gander Mountain before they closed their doors; they had a K38 next to it for another $600 I didn't have.

Sometime in the mid to late 90's I bought a police trade Model 10 (4" pencil barely, Hogue grips) for $139. It's my wife's designated revolver now.

I also bought a 28-2 with a gouge in the frame where someone had ground out what was probably an evidence number engraving for $200. That's not a pretty gun but it is solid and is a great shooter. That's probably one of the better deals I've ever gotten.
