I went to the Range this morning and in the display case were two new Colt Revolvers. They were both Colt King Cobra's, one with a 2" barrel and the other with a 3" barrel. Both had very very slick actions, a lighter trigger pull than any Factory Smith Iv'e seen out of the box, and were both high quality, gorgeous high polished stainless guns!

They were chambered in 357 magnum and both wore the same ribber grips. I am not buying anymore at this point (at least not planning on it - lol) and already own very similar ones anyway, but just a heads up that if anyone here is looking for a new production high quality 6 shot Revolver chambered in 357 mag, don't overlook the Colt KC!!

The current Colt Cobra, King Cobra, and Python do have exceptionally smooth double action triggers.

I’ve had one for about a year. Really good triggers! My biggest complaint is lack of available grips. The frame is different than the original D frame Colts. I really want some nice, wood Magna/service stocks, but none are available. Also, no Safariland Speedloaders. K Frame loaders work with .357 Magnum, but not well with .38 Special. Overall though, very nice revolvers!

I am not a real big fan of rubber grips either. Since I was so impressed with the gun, if I bought one I'd not hesitate to have a set of grips made. There are some really good makers out there and some are relatively reasonable. Hey, money is just paper - the gun is real LOL!! :D

I have both the 4” and 4.25” Target as well as a 38 spl Cobra and really like them. The rubber grips aren’t pretty but they’re functional for an old guy with arthritis in his wrists and hands.

I hate to say it but I’m much more impressed with the quality and design of Colts new firearms than I am Smiths. The fit and finish on my Colts are much nicer than what I’m seeing in my dealers display case of Smiths. For one thing there’s no internal lock and Smith looks like they’re cutting corners on finishing and have redesigned the area around the hammer on a number of guns which I think looks cheap. I really hate to see Smith cutting corners.

I obtained a new 3" Colt King Cobra about two years ago as a part of a multi gun purchase. Not really a Colt guy, but I had to take the Colt to get the Smith & Wesson that I wanted.
I, too, was impressed with the quality of workmanship, and the trigger. Also, I wasn't a fan of the grips, and couldn't find any after market replacements. Never shot it.
It's been relegated it to the bowels of the gun safe.
Kudus to "Coyote56" for the Hogue grip find. Maybe there is hope. I'll have to check them out.

While not as flashy the standard Cobra has the same smooth action and trigger. I too wish there were more grip options but I find the Hogue factory grips are just about perfect for me.

Picked up a three inch a year or so ago. I like it a lot. Rubber grips fit my hand well and make shooting pleasant. Carried it a few times. Quality is first rate.

They are nice looking guns.

I mostly shoot revolvers DA though and I just dont like the Colt DA pull. Stacks and slow to reset. Feels like pulling on a rubber band.

Quality of the two recent production Colts I had was very good.

As much as I like the looks of Colt revolvers, when it comes to shooting, I much prefer the Smiths.

I give Colt a lot of credit though. Using modern production techniques, they've still managed to produce a nice looking, quality revolver.

Agree completely. I picked up one of the Cobras a couple of years ago and the action is the same as the King Cobra. They’re just not as highly polished. Basically they’re a new version of a Detective Special.

Photos of the new Cobra 38 and Detective Special. The action on the new Cobra is just as good as my old DS.
