I live in Illinois but not Chicago and wondered if anyone here had been successful in obtaining a permit to own a handgun in Chicago and what the process was like? This is the permit just to own a handgun in the city as there is no concealed carry in IL. I recently spoke with a Chicago police officer and he said the process was made very difficult.

Gun owners: Permit process not exactly as fast as a speeding bullet - Chicago Tribune

Looks to be the definition of 'jumping through hoops.'

I can't find it but I just read another article about this, it was about Daly retiring and wanting the taxpayers to fund his bodyguards. Part of the article was how there are no gun stores in the city, thus, no FFL, in the city; no ranges allowed, although training at a range is required to get a permit, and on and on. Roadblock after costly roadblock...

Here is the article

The Second Amendment Foundation, in partnership with the Illinois State Rifle Association and three individual plaintiffs, are suing Chicago over their new permitting process -- and Chicago's prohibition against public gun ranges, while requiring applicants to undergo proficiency testing.

The three individual plaintiffs include a disabled lady, a WW II veteran and a retired Chicago police detective.
