Chicken Wings

Buffalo Wild Wings, where we just watched the Texans fiasco of a game, has "boneless wings" which are chunks of breast meat fried up and dipped in the sauce of your choice. (Insert your choice of joke here.)

Are boneless wings as advertised on TV the same thing as chicken nuggets? If not, how do chickens fly with no bones in their wings? If so, how did they get the bones out of the wings?

Best post in a long, long, long, time!!!!!!!

Ever have pitless olives? It's the same thing. They have a machine that cores out the bone and then leaves a slight hole in the end.

Then, they cook them just like regular wings. As they cook they shrink slightly, so the hole is not noticeable.

The real secret is that they simply must be fresh, not frozen chickens. Also, you need to realize that the cost is higher because you are buying 100% meat by weight, as opposed to getting the bone weight as well.

We've been doing it in Buffalo since the 1960's.

Chicken tenterloins are also used to make the "boneless" chicken wings.

Jim, I've never seen such a thing. Literally, a wing...which is DARK meat, that's deboned? I'd buy the HECK outta those. Perhaps it's a NY-only, or northeast thing? The ONLY 'boneless wing' nonsense I've every known is nasty breaded white-meat strips....bleh.

Chicken wings are white meat.

Chicken nuggets are ground up and reconstituted. Then battered.

Boneless wings are longer pieces of solid white meat.

Jacques Pepin makes “lollipops” Out of both pieces of a chicken wing. The bone sticks out like a handle and you eat the meat off. It is the closest I’ve seen to a real chicken wing that has been made boneless.

Boneless wings made from breast meat are way cheaper per pound than actual wings and there’s virtually no waste for the restaurants to deal with. That’s some pretty slick marketing right there!

When I was young, chicken breasts were the premium cut and they were $3-$4 (all prices I’m quoting are per LB). Wings were considered “peasant food” and I remember seeing them priced at 39 cents.

Today, you can buy boneless skinless breasts for under $2. Bone-in skin-on breasts are $3-$3.50. They cook up juicier and taste better, but they’re not as healthy. How is it that they can get away with virtually doubling the price, when they leave the skin and bone on?

Wings have become really popular and sell for $4/LB or more. They’re about 1/2 scrap and not good for you, but they are yummy when prepared properly. According to reports, Americans will eat about 1-1/3 billion wings on Super Bowl Sunday. That’s about 4 wings for every man, woman and child in the country!

I can buy whole chickens for $1/LB and it takes less than 10 minutes to cut one up. I understand convenience and the laws of supply and demand, but somebody is really pulling a fast one here!

Actually there are videos online on how to de bone a chicken wing. Is it worth it? I don't think so. More work than it's worth
You can watch the Hooters girl de bone a cooked wing but that's no fun.:) She can use a Hula Hoop as well. Hey it's a family restaurant.;)

How many of those little wings does it take to lift a Buffalo.

Need to move down here.
Bone in, skin on breasts go on sale all the time for 99 cents.

To me wings have to have bones in them.

Frank's Hot sauce, butter etc. is a standard sauce but I also enjoy my
Asian wings with garlic, ginger, Hoisin and "Red Rooster" hot sauce for starters.

I don't care for the honey mustard dip but hay, it is all good if there are enough wings to go around.

Boneless wings.............
I would rater have cheese curds or onion rings.

You can leave the bones in mine. Junior and I just slow smoked two dozen wings in my smoker. We put several pieces of venison sausage on the rack above to drip down on the wings. That was our LSU/Clemson game meal and it was fantastic. Very tender and very tasty. We smoke with hickory limbs cut from our own trees. By just cutting the limbs I don't see us ever running out of hickory.

When I was growing up, a chicken wing was complete with a drum stick and a flat.
Now when you order a chicken wing, it is a drum stick or a flat, so you are paying for just a half of a chicken wing. Also the restaurants are now charging for a glass of water (ice and a slice of lemon is extra)

the younger me LOVED wings and that KFC stuff, the older ,healthy me eats it with the breading , the skin, and all the sauces removed, leaves hardly anything to put in a small salad....MUNCH AWAY GUYS !!

sad,but good heart health ((( Ha HA))stopped beer and wings, lost 85 pounds..........BUT still remember how good it all is.....;)

This in my opinion is the best video ever posted on the internet. It is Jacque Pepin making a Galantine chicken. The whole video is awesome. But the lollipop wings are right at the beginning. YouTube

Watching that vid gave me an idea for the boneless pork tenderloin I have to cook. :D
