Howdy SWCA members and everyone who's not a member, yet,

You might have seen this thread on the other forum, but I'm well into the 1961-1980 era, now, so going to add it here.

You've seen my shared thoughts and opinions about Chiefs Specials based on information in my database. Well, mine now is our database on the SWCA website.

Mike Helms, the SWCA webmaster, has gone to extra lengths to ensure the serial number column on the database is in sequential order to make our database a viable resource for future research.

Entries, so far, for Chiefs Specials, Chiefs Special Airweights, and Models 36, 37, and 60 extend beyond s/n 401000 into 1966.

If you've made an entry about your Chiefs Special on the forum I probably have it, but if you used X's in the serial number I can't include it on the SWCA database because the protocol for the serial number column is solely numeric. When I've entered all the Chiefs through 1969, including Model 60s, we'll have to figure out how to accommodate continuing the database with the J's, R's and the current numbering system serial numbers.

If you're not a SWCA member, you won't be able to join any younger! There are other databases, maintained by other members, on the site, too.

Please go take a look at the database. Please do let me know if I've made a mistake. And please send new serial numbers or revised information to me that you'd like to have included in our database.

All my best for a happy, healthy summer.

Thanks to everyone who worked on it.

Thanks go to Dr. Roy Jinks, to everyone who's asked Roy for a ship date or entered their Chiefs Special (including Airweight) on this forum, to forum members who've sent "orders" and other bits and pieces about Chiefs to me, and all those folks who've offered Chiefs Specials for sale on many of the auction sites in recent years.

I've finished entering the serial numbers I have, up through 786544, the last serial number in the original J-frame series in 1969. There are 1,919 entries, which doesn't seem like many compared to the number produced, but it's a start.

I didn't capture all the details, but if you know specifics about one you see in the database, please let me know, and I'll add them.

The "search" feature on the database works so you don't have to look through the 74 pages of 25 entries per page to find your Chiefs Special.

SWCA webmaster Mike Helms set up the J+5 digit database today, and he'll be adding the J+6 and R databases soon so I can begin plugging those numbers in. We're still trying to figure out how to log the "roving J" serial numbers and keep them in serial number order -- more to come on that.
