Thanks to information supplied by our resident Chiefs Special shepherd- the one and only Bob Townsend two-bit cowboy, I was able to recently corral a neat Model 37 for my measly accumulation.
There was a little bit of reservation on both Bob’s end and mine, as we were concerned about the “authenticity” or providence of this particular Airweight with serial number 129851, but with the grateful assistance of Bob and Dr. Roy Jinks, it has been confirmed that this Mod-37 is likely the very first model marked 37 to leave the Factory!
As per Bob on his database found in the SWCA website: “Model 37 * 1st known Chiefs Special Airweight with "MOD-37" stamped on the frame in the yoke cut.”
And from Roy: “ To Morley Brothers Co., Saginaw, Mich. One of three in the order -- see 131665 & 141326. Shipped on October 10, 1958.”
Matching s/n Sunray box, warranty card, cleaning rod & brush. Frame assembly # on lower left side of grip frame, 5th flat style thumbpiece and matching s/n Diamond Magnas.
