Child Proof Packaging

Midway had free shipping for orders over $50 . I ordered a box of 45-70 for deer season. To get it on past the $50 mark I ordered these Federal 38s. Federal’s child proof packaging was almost old bald man proof. I have x-rayed kids who swallowed coins and batteries but a 38 cartridge would be a new one to me. Seems like a regular box would suffice but apparently Federal thinks otherwise. Oh well, me and the screwdriver got it open. Broke one of the tabs but I got it open. Y’all have a good day!

Once you break the tab, if you pick it up from the top or bottom all the rounds will scatter. I try to stay away from the 20 rd boxes. Joe

Child proof only works against the old. Children have no problem getting into anything.

I despise the HST packaging.

On the old Carol Burnett show Tim Conway did a sketch about childproof prescription bottles. He tried more and more hilariously desperate measures to demonstrate how easily an adult could open the bottle. He wound up shooting it with a Thompson, to no avail.

In my old age, I find that less funny.

Those boxes are a major PITA. I was opening a box of 40 S&W in that packaging at the range one time. You know when a bag of Potato Chips explode when they fly open? YEah. It was like that. Time to play a game of 20 pick up.

I just bought a box of that to try. Broke the box getting it open.
I hope the ammo is better than the box.

Buffalo Bore uses boxes like that, now.
I ordered some .38 SD ammo from them recently and had great fun getting the dang boxes open.

I use a small hacksaw with a fine-tooth blade and saw off one end. Then dump the rounds into a box I use for reloads.

Same here. After much struggle getting a 9mm HST box open (screwdriver, knife, hacksaw, jaws of life, etc.), I accidentally had it snap shut again. After I got it back open, I carefully placed the top on with the tabs outside of the slots, and lightly scotch-taped the top to the bottom. Since then, I've only bought HSTs online in traditional 50-round boxes.

The best way to open any child-proof container is to find a child and let them open it for you.
