Whoa, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm 63, freshly retired since March. I've been lucky so far. My wife is younger, also, by 8 years, and I really hope she or my daughter don't bring it home from their respective places of employment. That's the wrong way to have to lose weight. I'm debating real hard about Christmas this year; usually about 15 - 20 people in one house. I told her she can go, but I don't plan on going. It's her family anyways. I hope you get out of this okay. As long as you don't need hospitalized, you'll probably be okay soon. It's no joke. Another reason Im glad I quit doing bars.

I feel for you. Covid kicked by butt back in March and it took until early October before I started feeling some semblance of normal (whatever that is). I even busted a bunch of cartilage between my ribs and still have a disconnected rib on my right side.

I hope you recover faster than I did.

I was at my pulmonary Dr appointment the other day. He said hospital is at 125% and they are crowding them in. He said it can be weird. He has had people with serious lung problems go right through it with few problems, yet has a a 27 year old nurse that worked out daily and had little body fat and she was still can't get out of bed after 10 days.

I have some spots on my lungs and he has been keeping an eye on them. No change after 2 years , so he said they will not be a problem. While he was reviewing and comparing my cat scans (I got to watch) I asked if I would be near the front of the line on vaccine and he said, I should be, but who should be vaccinated first is those going to bars, refusing to wear mask etc. Said that if they were vaccinated they would quit spreading it to everyone else. I commented that those would also be the hard headed ones that wouldn't take the vaccine either. He agreed with the comment "No common sense."

A good friend of mine and forum member (walter o) was admitted to the hospital this past monday as "Covid positive". He lives 5 mins from me, and I yak at him on the phone a lot but I haven't seen him in person for a month. Talked to him last thurs, fri, sat and sun.. Each time he sounded worse. He's an 83 yr old bird that's tough as nails and always powers thru any health problems. Myself and his other friends finally convinced him to get help. He sets up at gun shows here abouts and he made a show trip that lasted a couple weeks with a couple dates early Nov.. Pretty good bet he picked up Covid at a show. Talked to him yesterday and he's doing much better. No ventilator, but he's on oxygen to raise his blood oxy level. He'll be in the hospital a couple weeks. I'd recommend everybody get a blood oxy meter.

Last Monday, the lady I'm seeing took her 62 year-old brother to the hospital because he was ill. Of course, he was diagnosed with Covid. They both wore masks while in her car, and although she is in quarantine, she's asymptomatic. However...

He has been steadily deteriorating. He was moved into the ICU yesterday, and called her today to tell her they're about to put him on a ventilator...he wanted to say goodbye in case this is the last time they're able to speak.

Scientists and doctors have been predicting for months there would be a second wave of this virus, and they've been begging us to take appropriate precautions. This virus wasn't a hoax...it didn't go away by Easter...it didn't disappear when the weather got warm...we weren't "rounding the corner" last month...and it didn't disappear on November 4th...and yet we still have people who act as if this is no big deal.

As the cartoon Pogo once noted...we have met the enemy, and he is us. :(

I'm glad you're healthy so far. With all due respect, if your wife goes to her family's party, and you stay home, you are still at risk of her contracting it there and bringing it home to you. The safest way to celebrate the holidays this year is to do so only with those who live with you in your household.

Good luck to you... :)

This is serious stuff folks: it'll put you in the ground given half a chance!

Wear a mask, stay home, DON'T DO DUMB STUFF.

Most of us are old enough to know better and should be patient enough to put things like family gatherings off to next year.

The latest:

Eight staffers have tested positive at the nursing home. Two have contracted it. Six residents have tested positive with two confirmed cases.

It is Andromeda Strain lockdown/isolation. There is a serious battle waging there and Ruthie is being overworked with a short staff. The boys still attend school so we all go through sanitation protocol when they get home. Other than work/school/Dr visits we stay home.

I would rather have the inconveniences than the virus.

This is Ruthie's life these last few months.

Rusty, please convey to your beloved Ruthie our thanks for her dedication to public health. Best wishes to you and your family for a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving... :)

It's really very odd. That the decease is a hoax is an article of faith for some.

Read in the news an article quoting a nurse in South Dakota She was in despair from dealing with covid patients who still believed covid is a hoax, that they must have some other malady, and who were begging to be saved as they died of the decease.
