I am going to buy a M&P 9c. My choices that I have found available here are both new but one was made in 2007 and one in 2010. Both are from reputable dealers and will take my trade in, which is a Taurus that I don't need. Are there any issues with the 2007 productions? I know I can buy online but prefer to buy local when possible. Thanks in advance for input.

Model year doesn't really matter that much on guns. If they have the same features I would go with the best deal, I wouldn't pay more just to get the newer production.

I'd buy the newer one. S&W has been making regular updates/improvements.

I agree. I think there was an early issue with the hollow roll pins (although that may have just been with the 45s) and they were later changed to solid roll pins. This is from memory, so I could very well be wrong...I'm lucky if I remember my name any more! :o

:D
They both come with lifetime warrantees, I own an older 9c, it's been flawless. The newer they are the more likely they may have a few improvements. In my book, I would also take the newer one, just because.... :) When we bought the 9c it was mid of 2010, the LGD who I asked about the newer models, said he would take care of us.. After we purchased and left, looking at the invoice and doing the math it seemed like it was $100 cheaper than what it was supposed to be. I thought about it and said that must be because we did our LTC class there and we got a discount on our 1st purchase then when I got home and looked it all over... the fired shell was dated in 06-2007!!!! I let it go, price was right.... but I wasn't looking for a deal on a 2007 gun.. I am kinda glad we have it though, lots of rounds through it, and some of the issues that a few said would happen, never did.. it's been a fun gun, being from Mass I put the Apex sear in it, and can plug the bullseye almost everytime I shoot the 1st round.. :) My wife hates it when I do that to her gun.. I did it with my M&P45 sunday on the 1st shot.. dead center bullseye.. love them guns..

Birthday doesn't matter

I bought a brand new M&P9 in mid-2007. It has worked with no malfunctions of any kind and has never failed to go bang when I pulled the trigger. I still have it and trust it completely

On the other hand, I have bought three more new M&P's since then and every one had to go back to Smith for feeding and/or ejection problems. That includes my favorite, the M&P9L Pro.

Like they say, you won't know what you've got till you get it. Assuming the conditions are comparable, take the lower price and don't worry about a later gun being an improvement - newer is not always better.

thanks for the info. i think i would take the older one if for me, but my spouse wants a thumb safety and the newer one has it. kind of hard to find one with that safety around here--- and that one is also $100 more darn it!!!

Your spouse is willing to depress and hold a thumb safety down all the time? Redundant, needless safeties on this pistol provide no "safety" and increase complexity in shooting. Even if you never use the safety you'll find it magically On when you least suspect it and really need it to be Off.

100% agree Chuck...not to mention spending extra to get something not necessary. so tossing out the 2010 with thumb safety leaves me with the 2007. i think i'm ok with that.

Thumb Safety Definition

JUST ANOTHER REDUNDANT REDUNDANCY, THAT DOESN'T NEED TO BE ON A GUN OF THIS DESIGN!:D

You can easily remove the safety on the M&P. You'll leave little block like holes in the frame, but someone sells a filler for them.

These are inexpensive pistols, especially with your military or public safety ID card. Like under $400. Maybe $50 more without an ID.

I have a mp9c no safty 07 model and love it. I bought a mp45c today with safty and im taking it off it doesnt lock very positive and it gets in the way. when i drop the slide my thumbs knocks it up to. I dont feel the need for it,just wanted fde and they have the safty on them. Here is a pic from range today with the mp9c, middle of target 25yd,head 15yds and little target 7 shots at 7yds all standing with about a second between shots........................................................................................................................................

update

good shooting!

yesterday went to buy the 2007 and asked to see the cases on the ones they had. The 2007 had a mag safety, but the other one was a 2010 with no safeties. Bought it. Today cleaned it, dry fired a bit, shot a box plus. No malfunctions, shot the middle out of the target. Maybe felt a tad bit more recoil than the full size, maybe it was my imagination. The trigger was very nice. Don't see how any one could complain about trigger pull on this gun. Just as accurate and easy to shoot as the full size M&P 9.

Plan to carry this when my permit comes. Love the full size but its a bit too big for me to cc.

Now I need to find a good holster :)

couldn't have said it better myself. Sounds pretty much the way it was for me... I have several holsters for different carry situations. My favorite and most often is my OWB... DeSantis L7 from S&W..
