CHP Model 67

I found this this CHP (OHB overstamp) model 67 at a local Pawn shop today for $400. It dates to 1975. I didn't know what the "OHB" mark was until I got home and checked my S&W Catalog. It's in decent shooter grade condition. I just thought I'd do a little show and tell.

For $400, even if it was not a former CHP issue revolver, that's a great deal.

Nice find at a great price. The model 15/67 is one of S&Ws very best. Accurate, reliable and versatile.

I paid $225 for mine in 2006 and invested in a factory action job and smooth combat target trigger. The gun is an early example with the stainless rear sight. It was purchased new by an auxiliary police officer and was sold back to the store where it was originally purchased.

A friend of mine once asked why I did’nt buy an L frame or a 19/66. My answer has always been a Model 67 is all that I really need.

I had to check SCSW for an explanation of OHB. It said they are usually found in rough condition. Yours is in really good condition. Congratulations.

Only in CA would they take the time and effort to alter stamping on a revolver in attempt to trick or confuse a new owner.

I still don't know why the over stamp. To hide the fact that it once belonged to CHP? What gives?

Not every Department does that. My wife’s M67 says, “PROPERTY YOLO COUNTY SHERIFF #120.” Of course, it would be pretty hard to alter or eliminate a billboard like that!

I went through the Academy with a model 15. After the Academy, I promptly switched to my personally owned 686. My old Dept. eventually sold them off (some were marked with the Dept. initials). I was foolish and never picked one up. Maybe I'll luck into one one day.

After a little Mother's polish and some K Targets. Probably not correct, as it has the speed loader cut, but it's all I had.

Shown with the ammo (Winchester 158 gr. +P SWCHP) and a speed loader my old Dept. use to issue. My Dept. use to issue model 15's along with this ammo, so I guess they felt the old S&W's could handle +P .38's.

It’s kind of an open secret now so what’s the point? Most LE administrators are concerned about the Public Relations nightmare of having a firearm used in a crime with their agency’s name on it. I guess the alternative is to simply destroy the firearms instead of trading them in (which would benefit no one).

91B40, I also have a Yolo Co. M67. I purchased mine from the retired deputy that carried it. The county traded them into a Sacramento gun store and the deputies were able to go there and purchase them, along with the numbered holster. My holster is mismatched as the correct one had sold already.
