This wont make me popular. December and christmass for me has mostly been the worst time of the year for me. All the worst events in my life has happened in december and usualy around christmass. My ex wife ran off with another married man and my daughter about a week before christmass in 1985. The presents were around the tree and I didnt locate my 7 year old daughter or her untill about 6 weeks later. I had a lot of girl friends before and after. 4 of them died on me and I belive 3 of them were in decembers. One I cant remember what month but it was winter. The last one had cancer, begged me to bring her home from the hospital and she died with me nurseing her in my house about december 12th of 1998.
I crashed a motorcycle that should have killed me in december of 1970. I wiped out a airplane december of 1977. My folks dropped through the ice in a VW to come out to see how I was doing ice fishing christmass day of 1960. I almost got killed trying to retrieve the car. December 13th about 5 years ago I had my nose removed due to cancer. I am sure I am leaveing out some other notable decembers. I am sure merle haggard wrote that song just about me, "If we can just make it through december"
Bah! Humbug! Right now the renters I had owe me the last three months. I just cant get sentimental about christmass. I got them out yesterday.

Merrill, I can resonate with the way you feel. I haven't had actual bad things happen to me or mine at Christmas but it strikes home to me those whom I miss the most. It's just a dismal time of the year; to me, New Years means it's over for another year. The commercialization of the holiday leaves me cold too. I take comfort in the religious aspect. I'll get to Mass on Christmas day before I have to get to sleep. I did get laid off for Christmas this year though. Ma Bell reaches out to give me one more beating. And, I get to work all this week from 10 PM to 8 AM. At least I won't have to take a day off to see the Notre Dame game.

Bah! Humbug!

Russ
