Couple I haven yet purchased but are on the agenda .., Cimarron 45 Colt/45 ACP extra cylinder and and Cimarron 357/ 9mm extra cylinder.

I’m wondering if I ever did go down the original Colt road of the Cimarron extra cylinders might fit the Colt?

Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks

Something to think about is that Cimarron is an importer. They don't make anything. They import guns made by Uberti and by Pietra. Whether these guns' cylinders will fit a Colt - I don't know. Years ago there was a company called Armi San Marco. They advertised that their parts were exactly the same size and thread pitch and everything else as Colt, so their parts could be used to fix a Colt. I'm pretty sure they are out of business though.

I put an Italian Replica cyl in 44-40 on my Colt Bisley.
I had to reduce the OD by (IIRC) .015" for it to fit in the frame window.
The ratchet is the same as a colt, removable bushing too.
Works fine. I may have to blue that one day!

The locking notches on the cylinder of the repro are(were) extra deep when compared to a Colt SAA . Just looking at them you would know it.
Trimming the dia down brought the locking notch depth down to the same (by eye anyway) depth as that of the Colt cyl's.

I can't say every repro cyl with interchange, but some will. ,,and I'm talking about will fit a 1st or 2nd Gen Colt SAA.
The 3rd (and so called 4th) Generation Colt ratchet is entirely different from Gen 1&2.
So is the Hand needed to work with it.
(But a 3rd Gen cylinder will fit a 1&2Gen Colt SAA and it will work just fine IF you replace the earlier Hand with a 3rd Gen hand.)

Look at the ratchet appearance and compare. Then measure with a caliper the length the dia of the cylinder
