Classify Weapon

I have a gun that belonged to my grandfather, but I can't get any more information, such as the year, caliber, and any other information that would allow me to perform maintenance on it. Can you help me?

Caliber is on the side of the barrel. Looks like .38 S&W from what I can read. This is NOT the same thing as the .38 special. Ammo is still available, but scarce and not cheap. The full serial number is on the butt and will allow us to date it. If it is in good shape it would still be safe to shoot. I am confident somebody will be along soon with more information.

.32 Safety Hammerless, 3rd model. Dates to 1902-1909. Chambers .32 S&W round. Would not try to shoot anything but this round. 32 S&W at times is difficult to find

Yup. Found my computer glasses. Definitely says .32 and not .38.

Recently inherited a break-barrel H&R revolver in like-new condition that required the .38 S&W round. Local gun shop had in stock at $40/box of 50 rounds. Even tho' pricey, was available over-the-counter and clerk's only comment was, "How many boxes ya want?"
