cleaning / drying sigma

YES, I AM WODERING. It may be inexpensive, but if S&W is going to put their name on it, I would expect it to work. For the price , I would not expect a fancy finish, or a lot of extras, or a nice smooth trigger, but I would expect it to SHOOT !
BTW, I am a fan of S&W, my wife and I have several of their revolvers , We have Smith revolvers that are 30 yrs old, that get shot more than the sigma, and still function flawlessly.

Sorry, you aren't getting by on this one in my book. You own the cheapest junk pistol that S&W makes, and expect to shoot it that much with no issues? Realize that S&W only makes this gun because it is cheap, and people who can't afford nice guns will buy it, maybe put 100 rounds through it, then keep it around for self defense or whatever their intent is. If you want a high volume shooter, get an M&P, or just about anything besides a Sigma.

Really? What about the guy on the previous thread that bought one and shot 196 rounds before it broke? Guess he is just shooting too much

Actually, i am looking at a Beretta or CZ.But, if you read my original post, i wasnt bashing the Sigma until some others stared in on me....

You just offered supporting evidence to my statement. :D Were you intending to do otherwise?

So you think it is acceptable for S&W to sell a product like that? I love their revolvers, and have several, but will never buy another of their pistols.. and am having serious doubts about any new revolvers, if this is what they feel is acceptable quality, at any price

I just dont see your point you are claiming to be running over 1000rds a week of reloads in the cheapest semi-auto that S&W makes and are complaining about malfunctions?

The Sigma is a fine firearm evident by the sales of the Sigma and positive experience of the shooters that own them. But....when you push over 1000 reloads a month through a semi-auto you might see problems.

I have seen Wison combats, Dan Wessons, H&Ks fail with reloads does that make them ****?

Yea. ok.. must be my reloads.. guess thats why they shoot fine out of my hi-point carbine( cheapest thing you can buy ).. ooh, and what about the 10 thousand .38's, .357's, and 45's i have reloaded and shot in the last year out of various firearms without a failure.. get off the reloads will ya.... Just admit that the sigma cant stand up to being used at the rate I would like to use it

You own a Hi-Point and a Sigma? Yet you claim to be shooting over 2000 rounds or whatever a month, and you ultrasonic clean your guns? This thread has lost all credibility to me. :D

I dont generally use the ultrasonic to clean guns, i use it to clean cases for reloading. I just tried it once to deep clean the sigma, and asked a simple question about drying it, then started getting beat up for shooting too much and wanting to take care of my gun... in addition to the Sigma ( which I actually like),we have 3 S&W revolvers, a ruger GP100, a Taurus Judge, a hi-point carbine and a 22 rifle, if you must know

After a couple of pages of posts I think all threads tend to get outa whack in some way. though I agree that even for $275 a Sigma should still work- it seems to me there may be a problem with the firing mechanism. Might I suggest you call S&W, tell them the problem, and send it in for adjustment? You have enough other pistols you could stand to be without it for a few weeks, and S&W is no doubt easy- and reliable- to work with. I also understand that shooting 1,000 rounds thru anything could eventually experience a problem- why not have it fixed? BTW I would send it to S&W, not a service center, just my opinion on that one.

I probably will end up sending it back to S&W. My thought was, since I do shoot it a lot, maybe if I kept it really clean and well mainained, I wouldnt have to....thats all

Wow!! This one snowballed quick!!! I have to go with Chuck1217 on this. S&W proper would definitely be the ones to send it to. You might want to avoid mentioning the use of reloads in light of the instruction manuals mentioning of it. I'm not slammin' your reloads brother! I'm just thinking that might give them cause to claim a voided warranty. Good luck with it!

Yea, I avoided telling them about the reloads. Seriously though, my reloads are on the light side, so i doubt if that is causing any problems. I will tell you this, after cleaning it in the ultrasonic cleaner , it is working just fine again. It isnt something i will do frequently, but on a as needed basis.

Suggest you avoid getting any oil or grease in the striker channel. It is designed to work clean and DRY (the plastic sleeve is self-lubricating).
Oil in the striker channel will collect grit and soon cause light strikes. ;)

That is good to know. I have been spraying RemOil there, per instructions from the guy at the S&W Warranty center

All I ever did to mine was blast out the gunk and grime with non-chlorinated brake cleaner and lube it up with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Never had a problem.

from my experience most malfunctions are shooter related... limp wristing or over oiling. You only need a very light coat of oil, if you soak your gun in oil it will collect dirt, dust and grim like crazy. just a drop or two on the slide rails and another drop on the top of the barrel

I agree with you on the oiling.

When I got my Sigma back from S&W it was soaked with oil.I spent a long time cleaning it and went thru alot of q-tips and cleaning patches.

That right Kemo Sabe. Has worked for me many moons. ;)

Lube on rails only.
