Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a list of things I should have on hand for cleaning supplies for my M&P 40C. I would like to stick with the Hoppes brand. There seem to be so many different types of lubes and oils. I currently dont have anything at all. Any suggestions would be most helpful, thanks!!

!. powder solvent to clean the barrel (I use Hoppe #9); there are literally dozens of them.
2. Lubricant for 7 lube points shown in manual (I use Brownells action lube); again dozens of acceptable oils and greases.
3. Solvent/lube for the parts in the frame and the magazines (disassemble the mags). I use CRC silicone spray which uses heptane solvent and dry silicone powder. One-shot step clean and light silicone powder residue.
4. Cleaning rod, brass brush, jag tip, and patches. Rags and paper towels.
5. Wax for the exterior metal parts for protection (I don't put oil or grease on the outside).

I live in the land of dust, sand and hot weather, and have to avoid leaving sticky residues that catch dirt.

I would start with a good cleaning rod, a clad rod with ball bearings on the handle as the rod turns while running it through the barrel. Two brands that I use is Tipton and Dewey from Brownell's or Midway. They come in different sizes as well as diameter. They are a little expensive but they will last for a long time. You can use a 2 or 4 oz ball pene hammer to tap the cleaning patch down the barrel, if you need to, without damaging the bearings. Use jags and not the slotted tip holders for patches. As far as lubricants and solvents, M-Pro 7 is all you need for your gun cleaning and lubricating. I have used it for years and I recommend it to my students for their cleaning needs. It is used by the military, law enforcement and their families. Soldiers testimonials about the lives M-pro7 has saved because a weapon worked flawlessly and consistently. Most of their previous weapon cleaners were not getting the job done. Mpro7 complete weapon maintenance system is designed to preserve weapon integrity enhancing reliability, performance, service life and operator safety. Reduces weapon maintenance time by up to 80%, exceeds Milspec cleaning system requirements and commercially transportable world-wide. One testimonial from Sgt Andrew, M of the 82nd Airborne Division stated his basic CLP wasn't working well and after a fire fight in Afghanstan where my gunner's M-240B jammed, he used MPro7. It did not fire well - it pured. I spend less time cleaning my guns using their products. It is a little more expensive than the other solvents on the market but they do the job. Like any thing else, you get what you pay for.

Look at the Otis kit. Good for rifle and pistol and you'll never damage a gun like a rod can. Everything pulls thru instead of pushing with a rod.

I like Gunslick bore cleaner; it's non toxic and really removes copper as well as ammonia based cleaners which can pit the bore if left in too long. Frog Lube or equivalent for all lube points; also non toxic and won't melt plastic or paint.

Everything above is all relatively new stuff and not what many have grown up with. I used to use all the nasty solvents and rods but have them all in storage.

I have an Otis kit and use the M-Pro 7 as well. And you might want to buy a bag of those thin rubber gloves, the kind doctors use, keeps hands clean.

cleaning rod
threaded brass bristle brush
threaded jag
shop rag or old T-shirt
patches
tooth brush or similar type nylon bristle brush for gun cleaning
Hoppes No 9 Nitro Powder solvent
Break Free CLP

I would suggest a Bore Snake and the Frog Lube cleaning kit that includes the paste and liquid version (you can find it on Amazon.com). If you give it a chance, I would basically GUARANTEE you don't go back to regular cleaning/lube methods.

AGREED!! I feel bad for guys that use traditional cleaning products. They just dont know how easy cleaning a gun can be. FROG LUBE ROCKS!!

I use hoppes elite cleaner. Bore snake. Ap brush. Qtips and a tshirt. That's all you need

I bought a kit at Wally World made by Winchester. It came with Hoppe's(#9 & oil)four different calibers of bristle brush & bore swabs, cotton swab patches, a toothbrush & a handle w/extension. It was around thirty five bucks & i can use it on my 9mm, 40, & 357 pistol & revolvers. I've been pretty happy with it.

+2!!!! This is all you need!

Bore snake and frog lube here. Works great and after the first few times I just break them down and use an air compressor to blow out anything that shouldn't be there, heat with hairdryer and relube. Good stuff!

Agree with with you guys suggesting Froglube. My husband and I made the switch last month and love it! Boresnake, microfiber cloth, q tips, and nylon brush is what we use.

This. Once you froglube residue wont stick to the gun, wipes right off.
