Here's a great post from one of our very own on tools you can use to make it easier:

As to cleaning the rifle, lots of videos on you tube, and lots of good references through Google/Bing, whatever.
If you really want the best and last word on AR cleaning and maintenance, get a copy of the Army's training manual.
Google:
TM 9-1005-319-23&P
It's also available in PDF format on line for free, but I like to have a hard copy on hand.

Man.... I wish we got all those tools to clean m16/4s. We got crappy GI cleaning rods, our own knife to scrape carbon, brushes, patches, CLP, rags, and tons of q-tips and pipe cleaners.

The TM is full of good info.

Welcome aboard! The one suggestion I would like to give you is...When you find a system of maintenance that works for you, stick with it and clean your rifle whether you fire 1 shot or 100. You'll never know when you'll need that rifle to save your life.

Welcome aboard...you did get some great suggestions above...I have also purchased most of the tools in the aforementioned thread. Because of this my Sport and Homebuilt are the easiest rifles I have to clean.

I just use Gun Scrubber, toothbrush, Boresnake, Bore Scrubber, and lubricate with Hoppe's #9 except the BCG which I use Mobil 1 synthetic .
